Military RomanceEnemies to LoversNorth-South KoreaK-pop IdolRom-Com

By the standards K-drama has set for inter-Korean romance, My Military Valentine picks the goofiest possible way in: a vain K-pop superstar named Lloyd (Kim Min-seok), sunk by a manufactured scandal, hides from the tabloids by enlisting — and lands under the command of Baek Young-ok (Nam Gyu-ri), the North Korean special-forces officer the same scandal dragged into frame. That is a lot of premise for a web drama with 35-minute episodes, and the first hour plays it broad.

What keeps it upright is Nam Gyu-ri, who plays Young-ok as genuinely unbothered rather than secretly soft, and a plot that quietly gets heavier than the poster promises: a sister with a failing heart, a childhood friend turned assassin, a conspiracy aimed at the fragile peace both Koreas have just signed. The romance is sweet, the espionage is flimsy, and the series spends its energy accordingly.

📺 Episode Guide

Enough per episode to jog your memory, nothing more.

My Military Valentine Episode 1 — The Scandal Machine EP 01
The Scandal Machine
Jun 7, 2024
Peace has finally reached the Korean peninsula, and South Korea’s biggest star Lloyd is the smiling face of the celebration — until a bomb scare at his concert and a fan’s lie turn him into a national villain overnight. The speed of that collapse is the episode’s sharpest idea. Management’s fix is a damage-control enlistment, and the closing shot loads him onto a bus to the border unit run by the woman the tabloids say he seduced.

My Military Valentine Episode 2 — Live Rounds EP 02
Live Rounds
Jun 7, 2024
Lloyd treats basic training like a photo shoot until a mock battle nearly gets him killed, and Baek Young-ok’s cold competence stops reading as cruelty and starts reading as the only thing keeping him breathing. When he shields a fleeing stranger instead of covering himself, the show lets us see the person under the idol act. Her motorcycle rescue and the plunge into the river close the gap between farce and something with weight.

My Military Valentine Episode 3 — The Boy With the Bread EP 03
The Boy With the Bread
Jun 14, 2024
A flashback to Young-ok’s North Korean training camp — a boy beaten for slipping her food — does more character work in two minutes than most romances manage in an arc. Back in the present, Lloyd spends his celebrity to shield her from the con artists hounding her outside the hospital. Then the boy from the flashback walks back in as a grown man, and the wall she keeps up for everyone else quietly comes down.

My Military Valentine Episode 4 — Old Loyalties EP 04
Old Loyalties
Jun 14, 2024
Sung Jae-hoon’s warm reunion curdles fast: he arrives with orders to kill Lloyd, and Young-ok’s oldest bond is now her worst liability. The episode is best when it refuses a cartoon villain — Jae-hoon is a man the same system that hardened Young-ok simply never let soften. With a terror plot aimed at the Unification Ceremony, she and Lloyd stop circling each other and start working the same problem.

My Military Valentine Episode 5 — Collateral EP 05
Collateral
Jun 21, 2024
The conspiracy turns concrete when Young-ok’s younger sister Song-i takes a bullet meant as a message, and the fight over Peace City ends up on a hospital gurney. Lloyd wants to investigate; Young-ok buries herself in duty, because feeling anything is a luxury her rank won’t cover. The distance between what he can afford to risk and what she can carries the whole hour.

My Military Valentine Episode 6 — Defense PR EP 06
Defense PR
Jun 21, 2024
Hee-ji pulls strings to move Lloyd into military public relations, a transfer that is half lifeline and half leash, and the show enjoys watching an idol turn the one skill he has into a weapon. The reassignment drops him back beside Young-ok on new footing — not her problem recruit anymore, closer to an equal. A pub run-in with Jae-hoon keeps a knife on the table.

My Military Valentine Episode 7 — The Fundraiser EP 07
The Fundraiser
Jun 28, 2024
Song-i’s surgery costs money the sisters don’t have, so Lloyd converts his fading fame into a benefit night — and the people who want him dead see a room full of targets. The set piece works because the stakes are personal: this is Lloyd guarding the family he chose, not an abstraction. The gunfire that ends the evening spells out the price of loving Young-ok.

My Military Valentine Episode 8 — After the Smoke EP 08
After the Smoke
Jun 28, 2024
The shootout’s fallout forces everyone to show a hand — who covered whom, who froze, who watched from the edge of frame. Lloyd and Young-ok finally say out loud what’s between them, and the confession hits harder for how long they were made to earn it. The same hour makes it clear someone with real authority is steering the violence, and the couple is running low on people to trust.

My Military Valentine Episode 9 — Borrowed Time EP 09
Borrowed Time
Jul 5, 2024
With Song-i’s operation finally on the schedule, the drama lets its leads breathe — a short stretch of hard-won calm before the mystery closes in. Young-ok relaxing enough to picture a life after the uniform is the most exposed she has been all season, and Nam Gyu-ri plays it without a hint of performance. The peace is genuine, which is what makes it feel like a warning.

My Military Valentine Episode 10 — The Net Tightens EP 10
The Net Tightens
Jul 5, 2024
Every thread — Jae-hoon’s orders, the disbanded Unit 112, the strikes on Peace City — starts pointing at one hand, and the noose-tightening beat is handled with more control than the budget suggests. Lloyd shifts from bystander to obstacle, someone the conspiracy now has to deal with. The clue that the danger runs through city hall reframes the whole season.

My Military Valentine Episode 11 — Shadow EP 11
Shadow
Jul 12, 2024
Lloyd names the mastermind aloud: Mayor Won Tae-sook, the public face of unification, has been engineering the terror to sink the project she is meant to lead. Her answer — shooting a vice-commissioner, taking Lloyd hostage — drops the slow burn for open speed, and mostly gets away with it. The reveal recolors every ribbon-cutting smile the season has shown.

My Military Valentine Episode 12 — What Love Costs EP 12
What Love Costs
Jul 12, 2024
The safe-house standoff resolves the most bittersweet way the show could pick: Jae-hoon steps in front of the bullets meant for Lloyd, and Young-ok cradles the boy who once fed her as he dies. Peace City holds, the couple lives, and the finale insists — a shade too neatly, but with real sincerity — that a love built across the border was the whole point. A small drama landing a bigger ending than it had any right to.

Who Shadow turns out to be The mastermind behind every attack on Peace City is Mayor Won Tae-sook — the politician who built the inter-Korean project and became its public face. Once Lloyd says her name, she shoots a vice-commissioner and takes him hostage, forcing the standoff the whole season has been circling. Sabotaging the peace from the top was the plan all along; the concert bomb, the assassins, and the pressure on Lloyd were all hers.

My Military Valentine (2024) — Mayor Won Tae-sook confronted as the conspiracy's leader

Why it had to be her The reveal works better as theme than as mystery. A drama about a fragile peace needs its threat to come from someone with everything to gain if that peace fails, and the person selling unification hardest is exactly who profits when it collapses. It is not a subtle point, and the show telegraphs it for two episodes, but it lands where it needs to.

The cost at the safe house Won Tae-sook’s gunman opens fire on Lloyd, and Sung Jae-hoon steps in front of the bullets. He dies with Young-ok holding his head — the boy from her training-camp flashback, the one person who was ever kind to her in the North, gone protecting the man she chose in the South. It is the drama cashing in every flashback it planted.

My Military Valentine (2024) — Young-ok holding a wounded Sung Jae-hoon after the shooting

Where Young-ok lands Young-ok reaches Lloyd in time, Peace City survives the plot, and the couple comes through intact. More than choosing a side, she ends the series having chosen a life — one after the uniform, on the southern side of a border that no longer gets to decide who she is allowed to love.

The KDW read My Military Valentine is a small web drama that spends its first two episodes as a broad idol comedy and its last two as something with real stakes. The spy plot never holds up, but the romance is sincere and the Jae-hoon loss gives the finale a weight the premise did not promise. It earns a bigger ending than it had any right to.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Straight talk on whether this one’s worth watching, and for who.

🎖️ Enemies in Uniform 💥 Idol Boot Camp 🕊️ Border-Crossed Romance 🎭 Broad Then Heartfelt

Any inter-Korean love story now writes in the shadow of Crash Landing on You, and My Military Valentine does not pretend otherwise — it just shrinks the canvas to a web-drama budget and a single border town. Where that show found sweep, this one finds a workplace: Lloyd and Young-ok fall for each other in mess halls and PR offices, and the smallness mostly works in its favour.

My Military Valentine (2024) — cinematic still

The military-comedy scaffolding is familiar — an unqualified man dropped into a unit that has no use for him — and if you enjoyed the underdog-in-fatigues energy of The Legend of Kitchen Soldier, the rhythm here will feel comfortable. The difference is that Lloyd’s arc is less about proving competence than about dropping an act he has worn so long he forgot it was one.

It does not all land. The conspiracy is thin, the villain reveal is visible well before Lloyd says the name, and a couple of supporting players deserve more than the runtime gives them. But Nam Gyu-ri holds the center, the sister subplot earns its tears, and the last episode is braver about cost than the breezy first half suggests it will be.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🕊️ Anyone who wants the Crash Landing premise in a lighter, shorter package ⏱️ Viewers after a complete rom-com they can finish in a weekend 🎭 Fans of Nam Gyu-ri, or of tough-woman-soft-man dynamics played straight

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
Nam Gyu-ri plays the commander as genuinely unbothered, not secretly fragile
35-minute episodes keep the pace honest
The Jae-hoon tragedy gives a breezy show a real ending

What to know first
The espionage plot is flimsy and the villain is easy to spot
The first two episodes are much broader than the rest
Supporting characters are thin by necessity of the runtime

6.9 / 10— A small border-town rom-com that starts as a cartoon and finishes with more heart than its spy plot deserves.
