Yoon-bok has spent his whole life inside Seongsan Village’s unwritten Joseon-era rulebook — respect your elders, mind your manners, never raise your voice at a woman. Hong-do has spent hers getting talked over by people who’ll take credit for her work without blinking. Dare to Love Me puts these two in the same room and lets the culture clash do the heavy lifting, at least until a decades-old arson case tied to Yoon-bok’s father’s death forces its way into the plot.

It’s a small show wearing a mystery-drama coat it doesn’t always need, and the actual pleasure here is watching two people from incompatible worlds figure out, slowly and clumsily, how to talk to each other. L brings a stiffness to Yoon-bok that plays as genuine repression rather than character quirk, and Lee You-young gives Hong-do enough backbone that she never reads as a passive love interest waiting to be rescued.

📺 Episode Guide

Spoiler-light recaps — enough to remember where you left off, nothing that ruins the ride.

Dare to Love Me Episode 1 — The Village and the City EP 01
The Village and the City
May 13, 2024
Yoon-bok is the closest thing Seongsan Village has to law and order — a scholar who still tracks down petty thieves the old-fashioned way, using instinct instead of evidence. Two hundred kilometers away in Seoul, Hong-do is doing the opposite kind of surviving: pitching ideas nobody credits her for at the bottom of a fashion house food chain. The premiere never suggests these two belong in the same story. That’s exactly the point.

Dare to Love Me Episode 2 — Nobody Is Listening EP 02
Nobody Is Listening
May 14, 2024
Yoon-bok talks his way into the club scene using a friend’s connections, hoping proximity will get him closer to Hong-do — she still won’t give him the time of day. Her actual problem is bigger than one stubborn stranger: a design she poured herself into gets stolen outright, and when she tries to report it, not one person above her bothers to listen. The episode’s real subject isn’t Yoon-bok’s crush; it’s how invisible entry-level work actually is.

Dare to Love Me Episode 3 — Raising Hell EP 03
Raising Hell
May 20, 2024
Hong-do finally stops swallowing it and raises hell at the office — and for once, it works in her favor. Yoon-bok, meanwhile, gets sidelined by illness, and Hong-do surprises herself by feeling responsible for a man she barely knows. On the professional side, star designer Camille starts scouting her next runway concept, unaware that the two threads of this episode are about to become the same thread.

Dare to Love Me Episode 4 — A Quiet Weekend EP 04
A Quiet Weekend
May 21, 2024
A quiet weekend does what weeks of chasing couldn’t: Yoon-bok and Hong-do actually grow close, minus the performance. He’s also digging into a 17-year-old case that clearly means more to him than he’s letting on, and starts putting a plan into motion. Camille, sensing an opportunity she can’t yet explain even to herself, sends Hong-do out to Seongsan Village — straight into Yoon-bok’s world.

Dare to Love Me Episode 5 — 46 Years Later EP 05
46 Years Later
May 27, 2024
A stranger from Yoon-bok’s past shows up uninvited, and whatever she wants clearly rattles him more than he admits. Hong-do wants a straight answer about where she stands with him and gets heartache instead — the kind that comes from caring more than you meant to. Camille’s storyline takes its own left turn: she decides to reopen a chapter of her life she shut 46 years ago.

Dare to Love Me Episode 6 — Not About the Aesthetics EP 06
Not About the Aesthetics
May 28, 2024
Hong-do can’t explain away her feelings for Yoon-bok anymore, which is its own kind of problem when you’ve built a life on staying guarded. Back at the fashion show, Su-geun and Camille clash hard over how the whole thing should even look — a fight that’s really about control, not aesthetics. Then a crisis back in Seongsan Village forces everyone to drop the posturing and actually act.

Dare to Love Me Episode 7 — Every Wish Granted EP 07
Every Wish Granted
Jun 3, 2024
Old wounds resurface and Yoon-bok does what he always does when it hurts — he shuts Hong-do out completely, no explanation offered. His idea of an apology afterward is to grant her every wish instead of just talking to her, which tells you plenty about how he was raised to handle feelings. Camille, for her part, moves into Seongsan full-time, betting she can win the villagers over one gesture at a time.

Dare to Love Me Episode 8 — A Wedding Without a Groom EP 08
A Wedding Without a Groom
Jun 4, 2024
Hong-do’s feelings for Yoon-bok keep growing against a wall he still won’t take down. Elsewhere, wedding preparations quietly begin — with or without the groom’s full cooperation — and it’s clear this marriage was never really about the two people getting married. More of the village’s buried history surfaces, and none of it points to anything simple.

Dare to Love Me Episode 9 — The Scarf EP 09
The Scarf
Jun 10, 2024
A scarf changes everything, or at least it changes how Hong-do reads every interaction after Yoon-bok loops it around her neck without explanation. Hong-hak scolds him over his drawings in front of her, and Yoon-bok defends the choice anyway, which says more about his priorities than his words do. On the investigation side, someone nearly blows his cover at Seongsan Hall, forcing him to decide how much he’s willing to risk to keep digging.

Dare to Love Me Episode 10 — Deleting the Ex EP 10
Deleting the Ex
Jun 11, 2024
Hong-do’s ex resurfaces wanting a second chance, and Yoon-bok doesn’t even let him finish the sentence before staking his claim — deleting the guy’s number and photos on the spot. It’s petty, it’s a little unhinged, and it’s clearly not about the ex at all. Their first real date goes sideways in almost every way that matters — overslept mornings, a missed highlight, an itinerary in ruins — but somehow that’s what makes it land.

Dare to Love Me Episode 11 — The Hidden Hallway EP 11
The Hidden Hallway
Jun 17, 2024
Hong-do lays out the mess with Joon-ho to Camille, and together they land on an unlikely fix: bring Seongsan Village in to handle catering for the show. Grandad Shin’s warning to Hong-do is blunt — don’t get attached to a man whose whole future already belongs to this village. While sorting logistics with Joon-ho, Hong-do stumbles through a closet into a hidden hallway she was never meant to find.

Dare to Love Me Episode 12 — Old Photographs EP 12
Old Photographs
Jun 18, 2024
Camille watches the village’s leader Lee accept one too many quiet ‘gifts’ and responds by cutting him a bigger, cleaner deal — a fashion-show contract with real money attached, no ambiguity required. Rushing to speak with Yoon-bok’s grandfather about it, she instead finds old photographs of the two of them together in France, decades before either of them became who they are now.

Dare to Love Me Episode 13 — Her Father's Name EP 13
Her Father’s Name
Jun 24, 2024
The witness Yoon-bok has been quietly protecting turns out to be Kim Chil-bok — Hong-do’s father, absent long enough that seeing him again barely registers as a reunion. Their first exchange since is as cold as you’d expect. Later, while scouting locations for the fashion show’s main stage, Yoon-bok solves the problem of Hong-do’s dismissive assistants with one blunt sentence: he calls her his girlfriend, out loud, in front of all of them.

Dare to Love Me Episode 14 — His Father's Village EP 14
His Father’s Village
Jun 25, 2024
The village elders reminisce about Yoon-bok’s late father — the man who dragged Seongsan into the modern era one streetlight at a time — and the comparison isn’t subtle. When they ask whether Yoon-bok intends to pick up where his father left off, he hesitates just long enough to make the answer interesting, then says yes anyway.

Dare to Love Me Episode 15 — The Same Secret EP 15
The Same Secret
Jul 1, 2024
Joon-ho ends up in the hospital, and the not-knowing eats at everyone waiting outside — Hong-do stationed back in the village, Yoon-bok and Yi-bok stuck pacing the corridor. Reporting back to his grandfather, Yoon-bok starts connecting a theory he doesn’t want to be true: that his father’s death and Joon-ho’s sudden silence might be the same secret, kept by the same person, for the same reason.

Dare to Love Me Episode 16 — He Chooses Her EP 16
He Chooses Her
Jul 2, 2024
The season’s central mystery finally surfaces: a corrupt Cultural Heritage Administration official kidnaps Hong-do and sets the building on fire to cover his own theft. Yoon-bok fights through the henchmen, then has to choose between finishing the job and getting Hong-do out before the fire does. He chooses her. What happens after — for both of them — is worth its own breakdown below.

🏁 Ending Explained

Everything the finale means, spoilers and all.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of Dare to Love Me. Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.

What actually happened The man kidnapping Hong-do and torching Seongsan Hall for its money and artifacts is a Cultural Heritage Administration official who’s been circling the village’s antiques the entire season. Yoon-bok gets there in time to fight off his men, but the fire spreads faster than either of them can control, and saving Hong-do costs him the chance to finish the confrontation cleanly. The bigger gut-punch: this is the same man who set the fire that killed Yoon-bok’s father years earlier, chasing the exact same kind of prize.

Dare to Love Me (2024) — The Seongsan Hall fire that exposes the season's central mystery in Dare to Love Me

Everything else gets tidied up fast Once the arson case breaks open, the rest of the village’s loose ends resolve quickly. Camille finally says what she’s felt for Grandad Shin since France decades ago, visiting Hye-won’s resting place with him before he puts a pencil box he’s kept hidden all this time back on display. Hong-do gets a real, if brief, reunion with her estranged father — not a fix-everything moment, just an acknowledgment that was overdue by years.

Why Yoon-bok lets her go Yoon-bok never actually says he loves Hong-do out loud, not when it would matter most. After nearly getting her killed, he decides the kindest thing he can do is step back and let her chase her design career in Paris without him weighing on the decision. It reads less like a grand romantic sacrifice and more like a man who’s spent his whole life keeping people at arm’s length doing the one thing he knows how to do.

Dare to Love Me (2024) — Yoon-bok chooses to let Hong-do leave for Paris alone in the Dare to Love Me finale

A village without him Yi-bok takes over as the village’s new head, which frees Yoon-bok from the responsibility everyone spent episode 14 assuming he’d inherit. He stays in Seongsan anyway, at least for a while — not because duty demands it, but because it’s the first place that’s ever actually felt like his.

The Paris reunion A year passes before Yoon-bok shows up in Paris, still dressed like he never left the village, and finds Hong-do at a café to ask if he’s too late. He isn’t. It’s a sweet enough final beat, but it also arrives after two full episodes spent manufacturing distance between them for no reason stronger than runtime — the reunion works because the actors sell it, not because the writing earned it.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Worth the watch? Our honest answer, and who it’s aimed at.

🏘️ Village Boy, City Girl 🧵 Fashion World Grind 🔥 Old Secrets Resurface 💌 Slow-Burn, Slower Talker

Dare to Love Me spends its best episodes on something smaller than its mystery plot: watching a man raised entirely by Joseon-era village manners try to court a woman who grew up getting talked over in Seoul boardrooms. It’s the same culture-clash engine that made Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha work, minus that show’s patience — this one keeps reaching for a bigger plot before the smaller one finishes paying off.

Dare to Love Me (2024) — cinematic still

L plays Yoon-bok’s rigidity as something closer to grief than manners, which is what keeps the character from becoming a punchline. Lee You-young does the harder job of making Hong-do’s exhaustion legible without ever making her bitter — a needle this genre doesn’t always thread well, even in webtoon adaptations built around exactly this kind of premise like Business Proposal.

Where the show loses its footing is the back third, once the arson mystery muscles its way to the front and the romance gets treated as something to resolve rather than something to keep building. Bae Jong-ok’s Camille ends up carrying more emotional weight than the leads in the final stretch, and that’s not really a compliment to how the main couple’s ending was handled.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🏘️ Viewers who want their romance served with a genuine culture-clash hook 🎭 Fans of L (Kim Myung-soo) who want to see him carry a lead role solo 🧵 Anyone curious about Korea’s fashion-world dramas minus the usual chaebol gloss

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
•L and Lee You-young’s chemistry survives even the show’s slowest stretches
•Bae Jong-ok’s Camille turns a side romance into the season’s most affecting arc
•The Seongsan Village setting gives the show a visual identity most romcoms this season didn’t bother building

What to know first
•The arson/inheritance mystery gets rushed and over-explained in the last two episodes
•The main couple spends more time apart than together in the back half, for reasons that don’t fully hold up
•This aired to KBS2’s lowest prime-time ratings on record — a rough business outcome that doesn’t necessarily reflect the actual watch experience

7.1 / 10— A culture-clash romance with real chemistry at its center, undercut by a finale that rushes what it should have taken its time with.
