After one more fight neither of them fully processes, Jung Hyun-seong goes out drinking with his friends, gets drunk, and ends up spending the night with another woman at a motel. Regret sets in almost immediately, and when he takes the elevator down to leave, he finds Han Seong-ok already waiting inside — with another man standing next to her. It takes him a beat too long to realize what that actually means: after seven years together, they may have just cheated on each other in the same building, on the same night, without either one planning it that way.

Both Guilty, Neither Speaking

Shock keeps both of them silent inside that elevator, each one assuming the worst about the other and saying nothing to defend themselves. Seong-ok moves into the apartment they used to share alone, and the moment her best friend finds her there, the composure she’s been holding onto finally cracks. Hyun-seong spends the night getting drunk with his friends and begging them to hide his phone — the only way he can think of to stop himself from drunk-dialing a number he already knows by heart.

Nothing Happened (Probably)

Oh Min-hyeok refuses to accept that his two closest friends have actually broken up, needling both of them with questions neither wants to answer — including, bluntly, whether Seong-ok cheated. Everyone still shows up for Kim Hyung-seob’s birthday anyway, and the tension of watching two people who clearly still love each other sit in the same room is its own kind of quiet horror. By the end of the night, Hyun-seong finally tells the group the one thing he hasn’t said out loud: nothing actually happened with the woman from the motel.

The Truth, Too Late

The misunderstandings that have been piling up since episode one finally start costing something real — Seong-ok tries to explain her side of that motel night, but Hyun-seong cuts her off before she can, then admits on his own terms that he did sleep with someone else. The episode’s gut-punch lands sideways: Hyun-seong learns that his close friend Kim Hyung-seob has feelings for Seong-ok, and that the two of them have already been quietly meeting without him.

Seong-ok settles into her new workplace and the fresh start it represents, even as the instinct to check in with Hyun-seong — out of habit more than anything else — keeps surfacing at inconvenient moments. Around them, the show keeps building out its ensemble: Min-hyeok and Hye-ryeong’s careful non-relationship, and Si-hu’s flirtatious habits with Yu-joo, both start looking less like comic relief and more like mirrors of what Hyun-seong and Seong-ok are trying to avoid becoming.

Neither One Is Fine

What it doesn’t give is a clean, unambiguous reunion: the two talk, admit what they actually felt and feared, and arrive somewhere that plays less like a couple getting back together and more like two people finally allowing themselves real closure. Whether that counts as a happy ending depends entirely on what you came to this show wanting from it.

What Actually Happens in the Finale After eleven episodes of misread signals and misplaced pride, Between Him and Her ends its finale with Jung Hyun-seong and Han Seong-ok finally having the conversation neither of them managed on the night that ended things — no motel, no friends caught in the middle, no half-truths. He tells her plainly that he’s lost without her; she admits that moving on was never as finished a process as she let everyone, including herself, believe.

Why the Show Never Fully Clears Either of Them The show spends its whole runtime deliberately declining to hand out a clean villain — Hyun-seong’s motel night and Seong-ok’s near-miss with another man are both real, both hurtful, and both the product of a relationship that had already gone quiet long before either of them acted on it. That refusal to assign a single guilty party is the point: Between Him and Her is a lot more interested in how long-term love actually erodes than in staging a betrayal plot with a clear villain.

So Do They Actually Get Back Together? This is where the finale gets genuinely ambiguous, and reviewers have split fairly evenly on how to read it. The trailer sells a full romantic reconciliation, and the finale does end with a warmer, more honest version of the two of them than the show has shown since episode one — but the actual scene plays more like closure than a fresh start: an acknowledgment of what they were to each other, not necessarily a promise of what comes next.

What Happens to the Ensemble The friends around them get quieter, less dramatic resolutions in keeping with the show’s low-key register — Kim Hyung-seob’s feelings for Seong-ok settle into genuine friendship rather than a rival storyline, and the season’s other near-couples land in the same kind of unresolved, true-to-life place rather than tidy pairings.

The KDW Read Read generously, the ending is a couple choosing honesty over the version of the relationship they’d been coasting on for years — which is its own kind of happy ending, even without a definitive reunion. Read more skeptically, it’s a show that spent twelve episodes building toward a reconciliation the finale doesn’t quite have the nerve to commit to. Either way, the closing image — two people finally talking instead of performing for an audience of friends — is the most honest scene Between Him and Her has earned all season.
