Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-jeong) is a food researcher at Go Food — competent, cheerful, and quietly nursing a crush on her university friend Lee Min-woo. When her best friend Jin Young-seo, heiress to a rival conglomerate, begs her to take her place on a blind date and scare the guy off, Ha-ri agrees. The plan: show up as the most undateable woman alive. The problem: her date turns out to be Kang Tae-moo (Ahn Hyo-seop), the new CEO of Go Food. Her own boss. The man she will have to face in the office every single day from Monday morning.

Rather than confess, Ha-ri doubles down — giving Tae-moo a fake name, Shin Geum-hui, and hoping to never see him again. Tae-moo, meanwhile, has his own agenda: tired of his grandfather’s relentless blind date matchmaking, he proposes to the next woman he meets. That woman is Ha-ri. What follows is a contract relationship built on lies that both parties are increasingly invested in making real — while Young-seo and Tae-moo’s devoted secretary Cha Sung-hoon (Kim Min-gue) discover they have a problem of their own.

📺 Episode Guide

Spoiler-light recaps — enough to remember where you left off, nothing that ruins the ride.

Business Proposal Episode 1 — The Wrong Date
EP 01
The Wrong Date
February 28, 2022
Ha-ri agrees to a one-time favour: show up to Young-seo’s blind date and scare the man off. The plan collapses before the appetisers arrive. Kim Se-jeong’s physical comedy is immediate and fully committed — the elevator scene alone establishes what kind of show this is going to be. Light, fast, and completely aware of its own ridiculousness.

Business Proposal Episode 2 — The Proposal
EP 02
The Proposal
March 1, 2022
Tae-moo, fed up with his grandfather’s matchmaking campaign, decides to solve the problem permanently: propose to the next woman he meets. That woman is Ha-ri. What’s quietly funny here is that Tae-moo isn’t cruel about it — he’s just extremely, catastrophically efficient. Ahn Hyo-seop plays the deadpan straight and it works perfectly against Se-jeong’s barely-contained panic.

Business Proposal Episode 3 — Study Session
EP 03
Study Session
March 7, 2022
Ha-ri has to memorise a dossier on Tae-moo before meeting his grandfather — and simultaneously survive working under him at Go Food. The episode juggles two timelines of escalating awkwardness, and the contrast between Ha-ri’s frantic competence at the office and her total implosion the moment Tae-moo is nearby is the comedy engine the show will run on for twelve episodes.

Business Proposal Episode 4 — Caught and Released
EP 04
Caught and Released
March 8, 2022
Tae-moo figures out that Ha-ri is a Go Food employee — and chooses, for now, not to blow up her cover. The shift from him being the mark to him being quietly in control is the episode’s best move. The secondary couple continues to circle each other in ways that are genuinely more electric than they have any right to be.

Business Proposal Episode 5 — Anniversary Trap
EP 05
Anniversary Trap
March 14, 2022
Tae-moo invokes the penalty clause in their contract: Ha-ri must attend the company’s Foundation Anniversary Celebration as Shin Geum-hui — the same event where she’s also receiving a work award as Shin Ha-ri. The logistics of being two people in the same building make for one of the show’s funniest set-pieces. Grandpa Da-goo arrives and immediately makes everything worse and better.

Business Proposal Episode 6 — The Real Thing Starts
EP 06
The Real Thing Starts
March 15, 2022
The midpoint — and the episode where the show’s emotional register quietly shifts. Tae-moo begins to act less like a man executing a contract and more like someone who genuinely wants to spend time with Ha-ri. The jokes don’t stop, but there’s something warmer underneath them now. Young-seo and Sung-hoon hit their first real moment of honesty.

Business Proposal Episode 7 — The Reveal
EP 07
The Reveal
March 21, 2022
Ha-ri’s identity finally comes out — and the show handles it better than expected. Tae-moo’s reaction isn’t explosive; it’s cold, measured, and somehow more painful. The episode earns its emotional beat because it’s been building Ha-ri as someone genuinely likeable and Tae-moo as someone who doesn’t process feelings easily. The distance between them here is the most tension the show has generated.

Business Proposal Episode 8 — Making It Right
EP 08
Making It Right
March 22, 2022
Tae-moo decides to pursue Ha-ri as herself — no contract, no alias, no grandfather’s agenda. The episode is the show at its most purely romantic, and Ahn Hyo-seop’s delivery of a man who has exactly zero experience expressing genuine feelings without hiding behind formality is consistently funnier and sweeter than it deserves to be. Peak drama for both couples arrives simultaneously.

Business Proposal Episode 9 — Going Public
EP 09
Going Public
March 28, 2022
The highest-rated episode of the series — and the one that made the show’s reputation globally. The couple goes official, and the fallout inside Go Food is handled with exactly the right mix of comedy and genuine warmth. Kim Se-jeong gets a chance to show Ha-ri’s resilience under pressure, and the show remembers that she was a competent professional before any of this chaos started.

Business Proposal Episode 10 — Grandfather's Move
EP 10
Grandfather’s Move
March 29, 2022
Grandpa Da-goo finally plays his hand — and the drama shifts into its obligatory separation arc. This is the show’s weakest section, because Lee Duck-hwa’s Grandpa has been the drama’s secret weapon for nine episodes and watching him become the obstacle is a tonal mismatch. The secondary couple’s storyline keeps things buoyant when the main plot loses its sparkle.

Business Proposal Episode 11 — The Honest Conversation
EP 11
The Honest Conversation
April 4, 2022
Ha-ri finally tells Grandpa the truth about the contract — and the show uses the moment to examine what the relationship actually became versus how it started. The emotional work here is quiet and real, even if the plot mechanics around it are familiar. Sung-hoon and Young-seo reach their own reckoning, and their dynamic remains the most uncomplicated joy in the drama.

Business Proposal Episode 12 — The Real Proposal
EP 12
The Real Proposal
April 5, 2022
The finale wraps both couples and delivers on the title’s promise — one proposal, this time with actual feelings behind it. The ending is compressed and leaves a few threads unresolved, but the tone is right: warm, a little silly, and completely satisfied with what it set out to be. Business Proposal never pretended to be anything other than exactly this. On those terms, it sticks the landing.

Kim Se-jeong is the reason Business Proposal works as well as it does. Ha-ri could easily have been written as a passive woman caught in a situation happening to her — instead, Se-jeong plays her as someone making actively bad decisions with tremendous energy and conviction. The physical comedy is committed and precise. The romantic embarrassment is specific and real. When Ha-ri finally gets to be herself rather than a disguise, you feel it. It’s a performance built on charisma and timing, and it makes the entire premise function in ways it probably shouldn’t on paper.

Business Proposal (2022) — cinematic still

The secondary couple — Ahn Hyo-seop’s deadpan CEO opposite Se-jeong’s chaos is the main event, but Kim Min-gue and Seol In-a’s Sung-hoon and Young-seo are what elevate this above a standard office romcom. Young-seo is bold where Ha-ri is reactive, and Sung-hoon is quietly devoted where Tae-moo is architecturally incapable of expression. The two relationships comment on each other in ways that feel intentional rather than accidental. Some viewers find the secondary couple more compelling than the leads; they’re not wrong.

The last two episodes stumble — the separation arc asks Grandpa Da-goo to become an obstacle, and Lee Duck-hwa has spent nine episodes making him the show’s most delightful presence. The tonal shift is real, and the finale is rushed in a way that leaves a few things uncomfortably unresolved. But Business Proposal earned its global Netflix run and its 8.7 MDL score by being genuinely funny in a genre that often mistakes cuteness for comedy. If you want another romcom that earns its warmth rather than just assuming it, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is the natural next watch. It’s the rare romcom that knows the difference.

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
Kim Se-jeong’s physical comedy — committed, precise, and the engine that makes the whole premise work
The secondary couple (Sung-hoon & Young-seo) who may outshine the leads entirely
Lee Duck-hwa’s Grandpa — the drama’s secret weapon for nine episodes straight
12 episodes — tight, bingeable, and never outstays its welcome

What to know first
Episodes 10–11 hit the obligatory separation arc — the weakest stretch of the drama
The finale is rushed and leaves a few threads uncomfortably unresolved
Grandpa becoming the obstacle in Act 3 is a real tonal mismatch
Plot logic requires you to accept Ha-ri making increasingly implausible choices — lean into it

8.7 / 10The rare romcom that knows the difference between cuteness and actual comedy.
