In Your Radiant Season

Our honest read on the drama — what it does well, where it stumbles, and who it’s for.

Lee Sung-kyung has done warm before — Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo gave her that — but In Your Radiant Season gives her something more demanding: a woman whose warmth has been buried under seven years of managed grief. The performance is built on restraint. Ha-ran isn’t cold; she’s exhausted in a very specific way, and Lee Sung-kyung is precise about exactly when to let the cracks show and when to snap the composure back into place. It’s some of her most controlled work, and it gives the eventual thaw real emotional weight rather than just narrative inevitability.

Chae Jong-hyeop as Chan is the drama’s most divisive element — and it’s worth being honest about why. His performance is relentlessly sunny in the early episodes, which some viewers find infectious and others find wearing. The character is designed that way deliberately: Chan’s cheerfulness is armor, not personality, and the episodes where that armor starts to crack — particularly from episode 7 onward — retroactively make the earlier lightness feel earned rather than shallow. If you’ve written Chan off by episode 3, give it two more. Chae Jong-hyeop is doing something more nuanced than the surface suggests, and episodes 7 and 8 are where it becomes clear.

The drama earns its Dramabeans comparison to Find Me in Your Memory and Our Unwritten Seoul — it lives in that same register of quiet, slow emotional healing. Where it distinguishes itself is the three-sister subplot, which is genuinely excellent and might be the most underrated part of the whole show. Han Ji-hyun as Ha-young is a revelation; the scene in episode 6 where the sisters finally fight properly is the kind of family writing that most K-dramas don’t bother with. The mystery mechanics are solid enough to keep you guessing without overshadowing the romance. One weakness: Nana Kim’s dementia subplot follows a very familiar playbook, and the show knows it — it doesn’t do enough to make it feel fresh. But the leads are real, the cinematography is genuinely beautiful, and the finale respects its own story enough not to clean up everything. In Your Radiant Season is the warmest drama of 2026, and it earns the title.
