Gong Ryong (Lee Min-ho) is a broke ob-gyn who also happens to be the future son-in-law of MZ Group, Korea’s most powerful conglomerate. He boards a space station as a tourist — not for the view, but for a secret mission he can’t tell anyone about. The plan is simple: get in, complete the mission, get out in three days. Then he meets Commander Eve Kim (Gong Hyo-jin).

Eve is Korean-American, relentlessly disciplined, and commanding her first mission as station chief. She runs a tight ship. Ryong is a walking liability. What starts as mutual irritation turns into something neither of them planned for — 250 miles above Earth, where the rules of gravity and the rules of the heart both stop making sense.

📺 Episode Guide

Spoiler-light recaps — every episode, no ruined endings.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 1 — Launch Day
EP 01
Launch Day
January 4, 2025
A broke ob-gyn and a by-the-book space commander end up on the same rocket — which is already a disaster waiting to happen. The premise sounds like a joke, and the show plays it that way, with an energy that’s fizzy and surprisingly fast. Lee Min-ho is genuinely funny here in a way his rom-com roles haven’t asked of him before. The setup works because Gong Hyo-jin doesn’t play along — Eve’s refusal to find Ryong charming is the entire engine.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 2 — The Secret Mission
EP 02
The Secret Mission
January 5, 2025
Ryong’s actual reason for being in space becomes clear — and it’s both absurd and oddly high-stakes. His mission runs straight into Kang Kang-su (Oh Jung-se), a scientist who’s been living up here for ten months and has strong opinions about who touches his experiments. A crisis aboard the station forces Ryong to improvise, and it’s the first moment where the show hints there might be more to him than the bumbling tourist routine.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 3 — Spacewalk
EP 03
Spacewalk
January 11, 2025
Ryong tries to work around Kang-su to reach his objective — the show is specific and unflinching about what the mission actually involves. Eve’s spacewalk hits a problem, and it’s the episode where Gong Hyo-jin gets to show something other than command mode. The contrast between Eve’s practiced composure and the genuine fear underneath it is quietly effective. Ryong notices. So do we.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 4 — No Air
EP 04
No Air
January 12, 2025
Eve’s oxygen runs out and Ryong can’t help — protocol forbids it, and the show lingers on that helplessness rather than rushing to a rescue. It’s the episode that lifts the series out of pure comedy and into something with actual stakes. The tension is real. When it finally resolves, the dynamic between the two leads has shifted without either of them acknowledging it. Best single episode of the first half.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 5 — Earth Problems
EP 05
Earth Problems
January 18, 2025
Ryong makes a confession — and the truth of what’s happening on Earth complicates everything immediately. Go-eun (Han Ji-eun) starts to feel like a real person here, not just a plot obstacle. She’s the fiancée being cheated on, but Han Ji-eun plays her with enough self-possession that she doesn’t read as a victim. The love geometry is becoming genuinely messy, which is exactly when this kind of show needs to be.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 6 — The Forbidden Experiment
EP 06
The Forbidden Experiment
January 19, 2025
Eve discovers exactly what Ryong has been doing — and the ethical dimension of the experiment becomes the show’s central argument. This is when When the Stars Gossip decides it wants to be more than a rom-com, for better and worse. The debates about fertility, life, and choice are ambitious in scope but uneven in execution. Ryong and Eve fight. It’s a good fight — both of them have a point and both of them know it.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 7 — Calamity Approaching
EP 07
Calamity Approaching
January 25, 2025
The experiment results come in, and a crisis approaches the station before anyone can process what they mean. Oh Jung-se’s Kang-su gets more screen time and proves why he’s worth it — his comic timing is impeccable, but there’s a genuinely warm core to the character that earns the loyalty everyone around him seems to feel. The station crew starts to feel like an actual ensemble rather than Ryong and Eve with extras.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 8 — The Rescue
EP 08
The Rescue
January 26, 2025
Eve risks everything to get Ryong out — and getting home suddenly looks impossible. The show’s best action sequence lives here: tense, visually striking, and grounded by seven episodes of investment in both people. The zero-gravity production design earns its budget in this episode. Ryong watching Eve choose him over protocol is the turning point the romance needed.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 9 — Stranded
EP 09
Stranded
February 1, 2025
Ryong and Eve are stuck — Earth is scrambling to save them, for various and conflicting reasons. Park Dong-ah (Kim Joo-hun) steps forward to take the risk of the rescue mission, and his motivations are layered enough to make you unsure if he’s a hero or something more complicated. The show has a love pyramid problem at this point, but this episode manages to keep all the angles interesting rather than exhausting.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 10 — Back on Earth
EP 10
Back on Earth
February 2, 2025
They’re home — and gravity is harder in every sense. The show’s second half starts here, and the tonal shift is real: what felt weightless in orbit gets grounded and complicated back on Earth. Ryong trying to readjust to normal life while carrying the weight of what happened in space is handled better than expected. His scenes with Go-eun are genuinely uncomfortable, and that’s the right reaction to have.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 11 — The Report
EP 11
The Report
February 8, 2025
Chief Kang wants a full account of what happened in space — and writing it means Ryong and Eve have to relive everything together. It’s a clever device: the episode uses memory as a way to revisit the best parts of the first half while present-day tension tightens. The scenes of them struggling to tell a sanitized version of the truth, separately, in identical offices, are some of the better writing in the show.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 12 — Go-eun Comes Calling
EP 12
Go-eun Comes Calling
February 9, 2025
Go-eun confronts Eve directly — and Han Ji-eun is excellent here. She doesn’t play it as a villain monologue; she plays it as a woman who knows exactly what’s happening and is choosing her dignity anyway. Eve’s genuine shame in that moment is Gong Hyo-jin at her best. Chief Kang intervenes, adding another layer of complicated loyalty to an already crowded web of relationships.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 13 — Under Investigation
EP 13
Under Investigation
February 15, 2025
Chief Kang calls in Ryong and Kang-su to answer for the unauthorized experiment — and the investigation is now official. Eve discovers something painful about her own past that reframes her rigidity in a way the show has been pointing toward since episode one. The pacing slows here and the Earth-bound plot starts marking time. Worth staying through for Eve’s backstory scenes, which are the emotional core of the episode.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 14 — Evidence in Orbit
EP 14
Evidence in Orbit
February 16, 2025
An investigative team finds Ryong’s cell phone still floating in space — which is exactly the kind of development only this show could deliver with a straight face. The inquiry escalates, and who is ultimately responsible becomes a question with a more complicated answer than expected. The procedural elements work better than they should, largely because Kim Joo-hun as Park Dong-ah is playing the moral ambiguity with genuine skill.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 15 — The Commotion
EP 15
The Commotion
February 22, 2025
Seoul MCC erupts when an illegal specimen is confiscated — and Eve’s new reality is revealed. The consequences of everything they did in space finally land, and the episode takes a turn that divides the show into Before and After. Lee Min-ho’s reaction to what he learns is raw and unguarded in a way his performance hasn’t been until now. The show is asking bigger questions in the final stretch. Whether the answers satisfy is a different matter.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 16 — Among the Stars
EP 16
Among the Stars
February 23, 2025
The finale swings for something operatic — and partially lands. Ryong goes back up. What happens to Eve is devastating and deliberately poetic, and Gong Hyo-jin carries it with everything she has. The show’s ending is the most contested thing about it: beautiful to some, unforgivable to others. It’s not a clean resolution, and it doesn’t pretend to be. What it is: a drama that went somewhere most K-dramas would never dare to go.

🏁 Ending Explained

Full spoilers ahead — everything that happens in the finale and what it all means.

Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of When the Stars Gossip. Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.

Eve is pregnant — and she decides to give birth in space. The finale opens with Ryong learning he is going to be a father. Eve, now 12 weeks pregnant and still aboard the station, reveals her condition to the MCC — along with her intention to remain in orbit to give birth. The science is implausible (a pregnancy at 12 weeks would have shown on the pre-mission tests) but the show has been asking for suspension of disbelief since Episode 1, and it makes the ask again here. Eve’s logic is that returning to Earth risks the pregnancy; staying means she needs an OB-GYN with zero-gravity experience. There is only one person with those credentials. Ryong heads back up — without authorization, against his own best interests, handing over his savings to his parents before he goes.

When the Stars Gossip (2025) Episode 15 — The Commotion

The birth succeeds. Eve does not survive it. Ryong delivers baby Byeol successfully in orbit — a first in human history, and the show leans into the poetic weight of that. Eve dies in childbirth. It’s presented as a sacrifice she chose knowingly: a woman who had spent her entire career prioritizing mission over self, making one final decision on her own terms. Ryong scatters her ashes among the stars, with the line: “Goodbye, Eve. See you again.” The show’s most contested creative decision is here — Eve’s death divides viewers sharply between those who find it a moving culmination of her arc and those who feel it’s an emotionally manipulative payoff for a story that hadn’t earned such weight.

The epilogue is a montage of generations. The finale cuts forward in time, showing Byeol’s feet growing from infant to child to adult as she returns to Earth. An elderly Ryong sits in a wheelchair, visually deteriorated from his extended time in zero gravity — the show implying, without spelling out, that he paid a lasting physical price for staying in orbit. Byeol walks toward him with her own child. The image is a direct callback to Ryong’s recurring line: “The universe is like a womb and a tomb.” A cycle of life complete. Many supporting storylines — Ryong’s legal troubles, Min-jeong’s experimental subplot, Dong-ah’s unresolved feelings for Eve — are not addressed. The show closes its final chapter and leaves the rest to inference.

When the Stars Gossip (2025) Episode 1 — Launch Day

What the ending is trying to say — and why it divides people. The show’s thesis, stated explicitly from Episode 1, is that the universe operates as both womb and tomb: life and death are the same cycle, loss is generative, sacrifice is love in its most complete form. Eve’s death is meant to embody that thesis literally and symbolically. For viewers who followed Eve’s arc of isolation — abandoned by her mother, defined by her work, finally choosing connection — the ending is a coherent, if painful, resolution. For viewers who came for a space rom-com and wanted Ryong and Eve on Earth together, it is a betrayal. Both readings are honest responses to the same ending. The show made a bold, costly creative choice and lived with it. In the end, the stars didn’t gossip — they kept every secret that mattered.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Our honest read on why this drama is worth your time — and who it’s for.

🚀 Zero Gravity Romance
😂 Surprisingly Funny
💔 Divisive Ending
✨ Stunning Production
🌌 Ambitious Sci-Fi

The first four episodes of When the Stars Gossip are some of the most purely enjoyable K-drama television of 2025. Lee Min-ho plays a version of himself the genre hasn’t seen — scruffy, broke, and operating in full panic mode — and Gong Hyo-jin matches him beat for beat with a performance that’s all controlled precision and hidden warmth. The zero-gravity cinematography is gorgeous. The comedy lands. And the show’s central premise — a gynecologist secretly smuggling reproductive experiments into orbit — is so specific and strange that it earns its own genre: space ethical-dilemma romance.

When the Stars Gossip (2025) — cinematic still

The show’s problem is that it wants to be two things at once and can’t quite hold both. The rom-com half is breezy and confident. The thematic half — fertility ethics, the cost of ambition, what women owe their bodies — is ambitious but undercooked, and the final episodes collapse under the weight of a direction the script hasn’t fully earned. The ending is genuinely moving if you surrender to it. It is also, by any structural measure, a mess. Both reactions are valid, and the show somehow earns them simultaneously. For fans of Doctor Slump who want something more unusual and visually ambitious, this is the next logical step — even if the landing isn’t clean.

Watch it for the first half without reservation. Watch the second half knowing the show is swinging hard and not always connecting. If you can make peace with an ending that’s more poetic than coherent, there’s something here that’s genuinely unlike anything else the year produced. When the Stars Gossip is an expensive, strange, imperfect thing — and that might be exactly what makes it worth watching.
