Ten years ago, Yoon Ena discovered her uncle — the only family she had ever known — murdered, with a single cryptic puzzle piece beside the body. She couldn’t explain how she got there. Detective Kim Han-saem couldn’t explain why she looked guilty. The case closed without a conviction, and neither of them moved on.

A decade later, Ena is a criminal profiler at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Criminal Analysis Team. Han-saem is still a detective. And a new string of murders has begun — each victim found with an identical puzzle piece, each killing methodical and purposeful, each pointing back to the same buried truth neither of them is ready to face. The killer isn’t choosing victims at random. Every puzzle piece is an indictment. Every target was complicit in something the system chose to forget.

📺 Episode Guide

Spoiler-light recaps — enough to remember where you left off, nothing that ruins the ride.

Nine Puzzles Episode 1
EP 01
The Puzzle Piece
May 21, 2025
High school student Yoon Ena arrives at her uncle’s home to find him murdered, a cryptic puzzle piece left at the scene. She has no memory of how she got there. Detective Kim Han-saem has her immediately in his sights. The case closes without a conviction — and the silence around it will cost both of them a decade.

Nine Puzzles Episode 2
EP 02
Ten Years Later
May 21, 2025
Ena is now a criminal profiler at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Criminal Analysis Team. A new murder surfaces — victim found with an identical puzzle piece. The episode reintroduces Han-saem, establishes the investigative unit, and makes clear that the past is not finished with either of them.

Nine Puzzles Episode 3
EP 03
Forced Partnership
May 21, 2025
Ena and Han-saem are officially paired on the case — against both their instincts. He still suspects her. She still outpaces him. The partnership is tense from the first scene, and the dynamic is precisely what makes it watchable: two people who are both right about different things. Early clues suggest the puzzle pieces are not decorative — they’re symbolic verdicts.

Nine Puzzles Episode 4
EP 04
The Pattern
May 21, 2025
Another murder. Another piece. The serial killer hypothesis solidifies as restaurant chain president Kang Chi-mok and his wife enter the picture — wealth, concealed relationships, and the distinct smell of old money protecting old sins. Ena’s profiling reads the killer as someone calm, calculated, and operating from a position of knowledge rather than rage.

Nine Puzzles Episode 5
EP 05
Working-Class Graves
May 21, 2025
The investigation moves into Seoul’s working-class underbelly — a recycling plant whose workers are entangled with one of the victims in ways nobody anticipated. The episode lands the drama’s most important revelation: each puzzle piece references a specific act of complicity, a wrongdoing buried by the people who could have stopped it. This killer is not random. This killer is keeping score.

Nine Puzzles Episode 6
EP 06
One Step Behind
May 21, 2025
Ena and Han-saem get their closest look yet at the killer’s profile — and miss. A construction-linked figure, Do Yun-su, emerges pointing toward a larger network of institutional corruption. The episode ends on a cliffhanger: a new puzzle piece surfacing with implications that land uncomfortably close to both leads.

Nine Puzzles Episode 7
EP 07
Her Uncle’s Secrets
May 28, 2025
Flashbacks fill in what Ena never knew about the man she loved most. Former Sangjin Construction managing director Oh Cheol-jin and journalist Lee Gang-hyun are drawn into the web, and the shape of a decades-old cover-up — real estate, political power, deliberate silencing — comes into focus. What Ena thought was a personal crime was always a structural one.

Nine Puzzles Episode 8
EP 08
Jeju
May 28, 2025
The investigation takes the team to Jeju Island. Oh Cheol-jin’s role in burying an institutional wrongdoing deepens — his past isn’t background, it’s the spine of the whole cover-up. Han-saem, watching the evidence accumulate consistently away from Ena, begins to do something a decade of certainty never allowed: doubt himself.

Nine Puzzles Episode 9
EP 09
The Full Picture
May 28, 2025
The killer’s identity begins to crystallize as the shared thread connecting every victim snaps into place — each one complicit in a tragedy involving the vulnerable, buried by the powerful. Mayor Kim Mo-il and law firm advisor Kwon Sang-beom enter the frame. The psychological portrait firms up: not chaos, not senselessness. A grief this methodical has roots.

Nine Puzzles Episode 10
EP 10
Everything Falls
June 4, 2025
The best episode of the series. Every major player converges as the full scope of the original crime — its political dimensions, its institutional complicity, the deliberate silence that made it permanent — is revealed in a single extended sequence. Ena learns something about her uncle’s moral complexity she cannot unfeel. The episode is emotionally devastating and entirely earned.

Nine Puzzles Episode 11
EP 11
The Tenth Piece
June 4, 2025
Lee Seung-ju is identified. The nine puzzle pieces, decoded in full, map the chain of responsibility for the original atrocity — the killer’s indictment rendered in fragments. Seung-ju’s final choice is framed as tragic rather than monstrous, because Nine Puzzles has spent ten episodes making sure you understand why. Han-saem’s decade-long suspicion of Ena dissolves entirely. The finale ends on a single unidentified puzzle piece — the cycle, the show suggests, is not finished. Understanding is not the same as justice. But it’s all this drama offers, and it’s enough.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Our honest read on why this drama is worth your time — and who it’s for.

🧩 Puzzle-Driven Mystery
🕵️ Profiler & Detective Duo
😶 Quiet but Devastating
🏛️ Institutional Corruption
💔 Grief as Motive

Kim Da-mi has spent her career playing characters who carry damage just below the surface — but Yoon Ena is the most externally odd version she’s attempted. The criminal profiler persona comes with quirks: an off-center energy, an observational mode that reads as unsettling before it reads as brilliant, facial expressions that the show weaponizes rather than softens. It divides viewers, and that division is intentional. Ena’s strangeness is what makes the case feel personal rather than procedural. Son Suk-ku, meanwhile, does what Son Suk-ku always does — plays a man full of unspoken things and makes you work for every emotion. The two of them together are the drama’s engine: a partnership built on shared damage and mutual suspicion that earns its evolution across all eleven episodes.

Nine Puzzles (2025) — cinematic still

The writing is most interesting in what it refuses to do. Nine Puzzles doesn’t want you to condemn Lee Seung-ju cleanly. Her targets were, every single one of them, genuinely culpable. The drama knows this and holds the tension without resolving it cheaply — the finale frames her death as tragedy, not justice, and the show is brave enough not to walk that back. Where it stumbles: the middle section slows as the institutional corruption plot expands across episodes 6 through 9, and several viewers find the killer identifiable as early as episode 5. The puzzle symbolism, however, holds. Each piece earns its reveal. The writer Lee Eun-mi — who also wrote My Name — knows exactly how to build a slow-burn mystery around a personal vendetta, and the structural patience eventually pays off.

Episode 10 is as good as 2025 Korean television got. The full scope of the original crime — political corruption, institutional failure, deliberate silencing — converges in a single extended sequence that recontextualises everything that came before it, including Ena’s uncle, including Han-saem’s decade of certainty, including the drama itself. The finale is almost as good. The final puzzle piece, unidentified, left on screen without explanation, is the right kind of unresolved: a reminder that the systems that created Seung-ju’s grief are still intact. Nine Puzzles doesn’t offer justice. It offers understanding — which turns out to be harder to sit with.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🎬 Fans of psychological thrillers who want atmosphere over action — think Beyond Evil pacing with Disney+ production values
🏙️ Viewers who appreciate villain motivations built on grief rather than malice
💥 Anyone who rewatched The Manipulated and wanted something with slower burn but deeper moral weight

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
Kim Da-mi’s unconventional profiler — polarising by design, and it works
Park Gyu-young’s reveal recontextualises every scene she appeared in
Visual atmosphere — color grading, cinematography, and score are all tier-one
Episode 10 as a standalone piece of television — one of 2025’s best

What to know first
The killer is guessable by episode 5 — the payoff matters more than the mystery
Pacing dips noticeably in episodes 6–9 before the late-series surge
No romantic resolution — the ending is emotional but deliberately ambiguous
The open final scene teases Season 2 — nothing confirmed as of April 2026

8.4 / 10Watch it for episode 10 alone — but all eleven episodes earn that payoff.
