Our honest read on why this drama is worth your time — and who it’s for.

Bae In-hyuk has been the most interesting mid-tier lead working in K-drama for the past two years — reliably good in material that doesn’t always deserve him. Our Universe is his best showcase to date, and the reason is surprisingly simple: the show gives him a twenty-month-old to act against. His dynamic with Park Yu-ho’s Woo-ju is entirely real — the chemistry unforced, the affection visible in micro-expressions that no director choreographs. Tae-hyung’s arc, a man who was abandoned by family learning to become one, would land on its own. With Woo-ju, it becomes something genuinely moving.

The drama’s central problem — and it is a real one — is the love triangle. From episode three onward, Park Seo-ham’s Yoon-seong consumes screen time that belonged to the co-parenting story the show was actually built around. Defenders will argue this is realistic: of course a first love resurfaces when you’re stressed and sleep-deprived and suddenly living with a man you barely know. The counter-argument, which holds, is that the show was marketed, cast, and tonally built around two people raising a baby together — and trading that for a corporate-office will-she-won’t-she undermines everything that made the first two episodes work. Both readings are fair. The verdict: the love triangle is the wrong choice for this specific drama, even if it’s not badly executed on its own terms.

Our Universe is a show at war with itself — its best instincts versus a structural decision that works against them. What survives that war is considerable: Bae In-hyuk’s finest performance, a child actor who deserves every one of his sixty million views, a finale that sticks the landing even when the middle hasn’t earned it, and a closing scene that will wreck you if you let it. The flawed middle is worth the beautiful ends. Come for the baby. Stay for the uncle.
