Death Game Mafia Game Survival Thriller Supernatural High School

The second-year students of Yooil High School pack their bags for what should be an ordinary class retreat. By nightfall, every teacher and most of their classmates have vanished without a trace. Then a message arrives — each surviving student has been assigned a secret role in a real-life Mafia game, with one terrifying rule: being voted out means death. Lee Yoon Seo (Lee Jae-in), sharp and quietly stubborn, becomes the group’s reluctant anchor — and the only one who can see a ghost that no one else knows is there.

As the voting rounds begin and bodies drop, the paranoia compounds fast. Every alliance formed could be cover for the Mafia. Every accusation could be a move in someone else’s game. Yoon Seo has to figure out who to trust — and decode what the ghost is trying to tell her — before it’s too late for anyone left standing.

📺 Episode Guide

Spoiler-light recaps — enough to remember where you left off, nothing that ruins the ride.

Night Has Come Episode 1 — Field Trip
EP 01
Field Trip
December 4, 2023
Yooil High School’s second-years arrive at a remote retreat expecting an ordinary overnight trip. By nightfall, the teachers are gone, most classmates have vanished, and a message lands on every remaining phone: you have a secret role, and being voted out means death. The episode moves fast and wastes no setup — the horror is not in what the show invents but in how credibly it strips away every exit.

Night Has Come Episode 2 — The Game Begins
EP 02
The Game Begins
December 4, 2023
The first death makes denial impossible. The students stop arguing about whether this is real and start arguing about who to trust — which turns out to be a much harder problem. Yoon Seo begins noticing Se Eun, the ghost no one else can see, whose presence suggests the retreat is carrying a much older wound.

Night Has Come Episode 3 — Suspects
EP 03
Suspects
December 11, 2023
The first vote. The show earns its genre here — accusations fly, alliances form and immediately fracture, and the Mafia game format translates into live drama with surprising efficiency. Lee Jae-in’s performance in the voting scenes is quietly authoritative: Yoon Seo reads the room while everyone else is performing for it.

Night Has Come Episode 4 — Cracking Alliances
EP 04
Cracking Alliances
December 11, 2023
The social fabric tears faster than expected. Da Bum starts behaving in ways that don’t add up — erratic but calculated in a way only Jun Hee seems to notice. The episode is doing quiet work underneath its surface tension: the real game is not finding the Mafia, it’s watching who handles fear badly and who handles it too well.

Night Has Come Episode 5 — Hidden Roles
EP 05
Hidden Roles
December 11, 2023
The Mafia’s coordination becomes visible — they have been working together since the start. Yoon Seo’s ghost visions intensify and push her toward a connection between the current game and something that happened at this retreat before. The episode shifts the stakes: this isn’t random. Someone designed it.

Night Has Come Episode 6 — Betrayal
EP 06
Betrayal
December 14, 2023
So Mi’s true allegiance lands like a gut punch — and the episode ends on Yoon Seo cornered, weapon raised, outcome uncertain. What makes the reveal land is how well the show had kept So Mi legible as both possibilities. The cliffhanger doesn’t cheat: it earns the dread it’s been building since episode three.

Night Has Come Episode 7 — Axe to Grind
EP 07
Axe to Grind
December 14, 2023
Yoon Seo survives — but the group dynamic is irreparably fractured. We learn the Mafia’s internal logic: they must kill nightly or face the same fate as the citizens. It reframes everything that has happened and makes the Mafia players sympathetic in a way the show is careful not to overstate. The show’s best structural episode.

Night Has Come Episode 8 — Closing In
EP 08
Closing In
December 14, 2023
Na Hee goes undercover to draw out the Mafia — a decision that is brave enough to be genuinely frightening. Se Eun’s clues finally lead Yoon Seo toward the original incident at the retreat, and the show starts connecting its supernatural thread to its mystery with more precision than expected.

Night Has Come Episode 9 — The Ghost's Secret
EP 09
The Ghost’s Secret
December 18, 2023
Se Eun’s past comes into focus — and the link between her death and the current game becomes undeniable. The episode takes a risk by slowing down and letting the supernatural thread breathe, and it pays off. The vote result that closes this episode is the show’s most uncomfortable moment, because by now the audience understands the Mafia’s position too well to dismiss them as simply villains.

Night Has Come Episode 10 — One Mafia Down
EP 10
One Mafia Down
December 18, 2023
Na Hee’s cover is blown, and the group turns on her with an ease that says more about collective fear than any individual. Her decision to push forward anyway — knowing she’s the target — is the episode’s emotional core. The penultimate Mafia member becomes clear but remains just out of reach as the vote process makes Na Hee the most exposed person in the game.

Night Has Come Episode 11 — The Last Mafia
EP 11
The Last Mafia
December 18, 2023
Yeon Woo is cornered and voted out — confirmed as the last player. But the camera catches Da Bum’s relief a half-second too long. Jun Hee sees it. The episode closes with him warning Da Bum in quiet terms: he knows, and Yoon Seo is not to be touched. The tension shifts from the Mafia game to something more personal and far more volatile.

Night Has Come Episode 12 — Night Has Come (Finale)
EP 12
Night Has Come (Finale)
December 21, 2023
The full confrontation — Yoon Seo, armed with everything Se Eun has given her, faces Da Bum knowing exactly who he is and what he’s done. The finale reveals how the game was designed and why: a reckoning for what happened to Se Eun years before at the same location. The survivors walk out together. The ghost finds peace. It earns its ending.

🏁 Ending Explained

Full spoilers ahead — everything that happens in the finale and what it all means.

⚠️
Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of Night Has Come. Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.

The confrontation Yoon Seo has been building toward. Armed with everything Se Eun has shown her — fragments of memory, locations, faces — Yoon Seo finally has enough to name Da Bum as the true last Mafia player. The rest of the game has been a distraction. Da Bum’s role was not assigned at random: he is connected to the original event at the retreat, the one that Se Eun has been trying to communicate since episode two. The confrontation strips away the game’s mechanics and becomes something more personal — a reckoning between a girl who survived and someone who made sure a previous girl did not.

Night Has Come (2023) Episode 11 — The Last Mafia

What the game was really for. The deadly Mafia game was not invented by the app or some mysterious external force — it was designed as a twisted act of revenge connected to Se Eun’s death at the same location years earlier. Someone who knew what happened there constructed a scenario that would force the person responsible to either expose himself through his gameplay or face the same death-by-vote fate Se Eun never got. The show’s most interesting move is refusing to make this redemptive: the mechanism is brutal regardless of its intent, and the innocent students caught inside it are collateral damage that the designer either didn’t consider or did and accepted.

Se Eun’s peace and what it costs. Once the truth about her death is fully surfaced and Da Bum is confronted with it, Se Eun’s ghost finally dissolves. Lee Yoon Seo is the one person who could see her and the only one who could complete what she needed. The survivors — Yoon Seo, Jun Hee, and Jung Won — make it out together. There is no triumphant resolution: just three teenagers who endured something no adult was there to prevent, walking back into daylight and carrying it with them.

The drama’s final image. The closing shot holds on Yoon Seo leaving the retreat center — the same location that swallowed Se Eun, now behind her. Jun Hee stays at her side. The game is over. The ghost is gone. The trauma is not. Night Has Come does not pretend that surviving a thing is the same as being finished with it — and that quiet refusal is what elevates it above its genre.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Our honest read on why this drama is worth your time — and who it’s for.

🌑 Paranoid Atmosphere👁️ Supernatural Mystery🃏 Death Game🏫 Teen Ensemble💀 High Stakes

Night Has Come is exactly what it advertises — a death game drama with a ghost — and the fact that it works as well as it does is almost entirely down to Lee Jae-in. Her performance as Yoon Seo is the engine the whole thing runs on: observant without being heroic, emotionally present without being sentimental, and just slightly ahead of everyone else in the room at all times. Compared to Pyramid Game — another short-episode teen thriller that aired around the same period — Night Has Come is more interested in interiority than social mechanics, and that distinction shapes everything about how it lands.

Night Has Come (2023) — cinematic still

The Mafia game format is the show’s structural backbone — and it’s used with more discipline than you’d expect from a 12-episode limited series. The voting rounds generate genuine dramatic tension because the show understands the game’s social mechanics: accusations become performances, performances become evidence, and evidence is always partially constructed. Whether that makes for satisfied genre viewing depends on your tolerance for misdirection. The ghost thread, which could have felt grafted on, is actually the drama’s cleanest connective tissue — it gives Yoon Seo exclusive access to information without making her invulnerable, and the reveal of what Se Eun is trying to say is earned rather than arbitrary. The supernatural is not decoration. It is the point.

The production scale is limited, and a few supporting characters are underdeveloped in ways that become visible in the final stretch. But Night Has Come does something All of Us Are Dead and its peers rarely manage: it keeps the stakes personal. This is not a drama about surviving a monster — it is about what it means to be trapped with people you thought you knew, and to discover that fear does not bring out the best in anyone. At six hours, it commits fully and wastes nothing. The short run time is not a limitation. It’s the whole strategy.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🎬 Fans of death game dramas who want something more intimate than Squid Game

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
Lee Jae-in’s grounded, quietly commanding lead performance
Mafia game mechanics create genuine, well-executed tension
Supernatural ghost thread is integral — not decorative
Short runtime means no filler — the show moves at full commitment from start to finish

What to know first
Budget constraints are visible — limited production scale
Several supporting characters don’t get the depth they deserve
Finale resolution is slightly rushed by the short episode format
NC-17 rating is earned — this is not a comfort watch

7.4 / 10Six hours, one location, one ghost, and Lee Jae-in carrying every scene — exactly as tight as it needs to be.
