Somewhere around minute ten of the pilot, Lee Mi-jin (Jung Eun-ji) falls into a well chasing a stray cat and climbs out thirty years older. Miss Night and Day never bothers explaining the mechanics of the swap — one minute she’s an unemployed twenty-something who’s failed her umpteenth civil service exam, the next she’s a woman in her fifties with a lifetime of invented experience to put on a resume. She turns the curse into a resume line, walks into the Seohan District Prosecutors’ Office as “Im Sun,” and gets the internship her younger self could never land.

Gye Ji-ung (Choi Jin-hyuk), the prosecutor she’s assigned to, is working a twenty-year-old missing persons case that turns out to be tangled up with his own mother’s unsolved murder — and Im Sun, without meaning to, keeps turning up holding pieces of it. The show splits its runtime between office comedy, a genuine serial-killer investigation, and a romance that has to reckon with the fact that its heroine is, biologically speaking, two different women. It shouldn’t work. It mostly does.

📺 Episode Guide

Spoiler-light recaps — enough to remember where you left off, nothing that ruins the ride.

Miss Night and Day Episode 1 — The Woman Who Changes Day and Night
EP 01
The Woman Who Changes Day and Night
Jun 15, 2024
Lee Mi-jin has failed the same civil service exam enough times that her family’s patience is gone before the opening credits finish. A scam, a tumble into a well, and a very ominous cat later, she wakes up wearing thirty extra years on her face — and reverting to her twenties every night. Instead of panicking indefinitely, she does the pragmatic thing: invents an aunt named Im Sun and uses the older face to land a government internship her younger self couldn’t buy an interview for.

Miss Night and Day Episode 2 — New Challenges and Old Mysteries
EP 02
New Challenges and Old Mysteries
Jun 16, 2024
Im Sun’s first day at the Seohan District Prosecutors’ Office comes with an immediate problem: her new boss is Gye Ji-ung, a prosecutor with zero patience for interns. He’s quietly working a twenty-year-old string of disappearances that circles back to his own mother’s murder, and Mi-jin — without any idea what she’s stepped into — is already sitting on a piece of it.

Miss Night and Day Episode 3 — Unveiling the Raincoat Killer
EP 03
Unveiling the Raincoat Killer
Jun 22, 2024
A chance run-in with the so-called raincoat killer hands Ji-ung a detail he’s been missing for years: the man’s scent. Im Sun’s other big move this episode is less grim — she saves idol Ko Won from an acid attack and gets a hero’s welcome for it. Meanwhile her best friend Do Ga-yeong finally accepts the age-swap is real, mostly because watching someone transform at sunset is hard to argue with.

Miss Night and Day Episode 4 — Proving Her Worth
EP 04
Proving Her Worth
Jun 23, 2024
Ji-ung spends most of this episode trying to work Im Sun out of the office and fails at every attempt — she’s simply too good at the job. He responds the way overprotective bosses in this genre always do, handing her pepper spray and a GPS tracker “for the internship,” which fools nobody, including him.

Miss Night and Day Episode 5 — A Close Call and Lingering Shadows
EP 05
A Close Call and Lingering Shadows
Jun 29, 2024
A drunken detour to Ji-ung’s apartment nearly blows Mi-jin’s cover entirely — she short-circuits his security system trying to leave unnoticed. The Ko Won case widens into a drug distribution ring with someone higher up silencing witnesses, and Ji-ung’s mother’s murder starts looking less like a cold case and more like unfinished business.

Miss Night and Day Episode 6 — Unexpected Alliances and Budding Feelings
EP 06
Unexpected Alliances and Budding Feelings
Jun 30, 2024
Mi-jin nearly transforms back into her younger self in front of Ji-ung and has to improvise an escape that’s more slapstick than spy thriller. He apologizes for underestimating her, which does more damage to their professional boundary than any near-miss transformation could.

Miss Night and Day Episode 7 — Secrets Unravel and Suspicions Mount
EP 07
Secrets Unravel and Suspicions Mount
Jul 6, 2024
Ji-ung starts asking pointed questions about why Im Sun keeps materializing at crime scenes, and Ko Won — who’s noticed the same pattern — starts assembling his own theory about her double life. An old colleague recognizing Im Sun from a previous job adds a wrinkle neither of them saw coming: this fake identity has a history nobody invented.

Miss Night and Day Episode 8 — The First Kiss and a Villain's Emergence
EP 08
The First Kiss and a Villain’s Emergence
Jul 7, 2024
Ko Won confronts Im Sun directly, reveals he’s already pieced together her secret, and — surprisingly — decides to protect it rather than expose her. Ji-ung and Mi-jin’s slow-burn tips over into an actual kiss, and the episode drops its clearest villain yet in Baek Cheol-gyu, tied to both the acid attack and the missing women.

Miss Night and Day Episode 9 — Misunderstandings and a Grim Discovery
EP 09
Misunderstandings and a Grim Discovery
Jul 13, 2024
Ji-ung’s reaction to that kiss is somehow worse than rejection — total, confusing silence. The discovery of a body missing a limb ties the raincoat killer directly to his mother’s disappearance, while Im Sun’s break-in for DNA evidence turns up something stranger: blood test results for “Im Sun” that don’t match Mi-jin at all.

Miss Night and Day Episode 10 — Unraveling Connections and Growing Danger
EP 10
Unraveling Connections and Growing Danger
Jul 14, 2024
Fentanyl in Baek Cheol-gyu’s dead wife’s blood links her to the serial case and, by extension, to Ji-ung’s mother. Ko Won, now aware of exactly who Im Sun really is, has to sit with feelings for two people who happen to be the same person. Mi-jin keeps pulling at Cheol-gyu’s thread anyway, and it keeps leading back to her missing aunt.

Miss Night and Day Episode 11 — Confronting the Past
EP 11
Confronting the Past
Jul 20, 2024
The real Im Sun’s disappearance finally gets a shape — a bank job, a connection to Cheol-gyu, and a timeline that overlaps uncomfortably with everything Ji-ung has been chasing. Mi-jin and Ji-ung stop working two separate cases and start working one.

Miss Night and Day Episode 12 — A Confession and a Rescue
EP 12
A Confession and a Rescue
Jul 21, 2024
Convinced Im Sun is behind his wife’s disappearance, Cheol-gyu kidnaps Mi-jin while she’s in her older form. Ji-ung gets there in time, and in the process watches her transform back into her twenties right in front of him — there’s no explaining that away. He doesn’t try. He confesses instead, and the kiss that follows is the show finally admitting its two leads have been dating two faces of the same woman the whole time.

Miss Night and Day Episode 13 — The Truth Revealed
EP 13
The Truth Revealed
Jul 27, 2024
With her secret out to the one person she most needed to hide it from, Mi-jin has to figure out what their relationship even is now. The investigation shifts targets toward Na Ok-hui, a senior intern nobody suspected, and the show spends the episode quietly rearranging its suspect board before the reveal.

Miss Night and Day Episode 14 — The Killer's Identity Exposed
EP 14
The Killer’s Identity Exposed
Jul 28, 2024
Na Ok-hui turns out to be Kwak Geum-hwa, a woman with a history tangling both Ji-ung’s first case and Mi-jin’s own father. She kidnaps Mi-jin’s father to draw Mi-jin — the last living witness to her crimes — into a trap, and the show finally lets its comedy premise sit still long enough for the thriller underneath to take over completely.

Miss Night and Day Episode 15 — The Final Confrontation
EP 15
The Final Confrontation
Aug 3, 2024
Ji-ung tracks Mi-jin’s phone to find her before Geum-hwa can finish what she started, and the standoff that follows lays out exactly how far Geum-hwa’s crimes actually reached. It’s the most straightforwardly tense hour the show has earned, and it spends every minute of it on the rescue rather than padding.

Miss Night and Day Episode 16 — A New Beginning
EP 16
A New Beginning
Aug 4, 2024
Geum-hwa’s arrest closes the case, Mi-jin testifies, and the finale gives its two timelines — Im Sun’s and Mi-jin’s — a shared future instead of picking one. What started as a curse she couldn’t explain ends as the reason she finally likes both versions of herself, day and night.

🏁 Ending Explained

Full spoilers ahead — everything that happens in the finale and what it all means.

⚠️
Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of Miss Night and Day. Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.

What actually happened Kwak Geum-hwa — the serial killer hiding for over a year in plain sight as intern Na Ok-hui — is exposed, cornered, and arrested after kidnapping Mi-jin’s father to lure Mi-jin into a final trap. Ji-ung tracks Mi-jin’s phone to reach her in time, the standoff resolves without another death, and Mi-jin testifies to close out both the current case and the twenty-year-old disappearances tied to Ji-ung’s mother. The raincoat killer, the missing bank employee, and Ji-ung’s oldest unsolved case all turn out to be the same woman’s work.

Miss Night and Day (2024) — Kwak Geum-hwa is finally exposed and confronted

What happened to the real Im Sun The blood test discrepancy Mi-jin uncovers back in episode 9 gets its answer here: the actual Im Sun, the aunt whose name and bank-employee history Mi-jin borrowed, was one of Geum-hwa’s earlier victims, connected to Baek Cheol-gyu through the same web the show has been tracing since the raincoat killer’s first scene. Mi-jin spent sixteen episodes literally wearing a dead woman’s identity without knowing it — the show doesn’t dwell on that horror for long, but it’s there.

Why the transformation stops mattering The show never explains the mechanics of Mi-jin’s age-swap, and by the finale it doesn’t need to. The moment that actually resolves the premise isn’t a cure — it’s Ji-ung watching Mi-jin change from fifty back to twenty-something right in front of him and choosing to stay anyway. Once the person who matters most stops flinching at the transformation, the gimmick quietly stops being a plot problem and becomes just another fact about who Mi-jin is.

Miss Night and Day (2024) — Ji-ung accepts Mi-jin's dual identity completely

Ko Won’s quiet exit Ko Won spends most of the back half knowing Mi-jin’s secret and choosing to protect it without ever cashing that in for a real shot at her. The finale doesn’t force a love triangle resolution because there was never really a triangle — just a friend who happened to fall for both halves of the same woman and had to make peace with only one of them being available.

The KDW verdict Miss Night and Day ends by refusing to treat Mi-jin’s two identities as a problem that needed solving in the first place. She keeps the internship, keeps the relationship, and keeps switching faces every sunset — the difference is that by episode 16, nobody in her life, including her, is trying to talk her out of any version of herself. For a show that opened as a fantasy gag, that’s a genuinely earned place to land.

Miss Night and Day (2024) — Mi-jin embraces both identities in the finale

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Our honest read on why this drama is worth your time — and who it’s for.

🐱 Cursed by a Cat
⚖️ Prosecutor’s Intern
👵 Two Faces, One Heart
🔪 Serial Killer Subplot

Jung Eun-ji and Lee Jung-eun are technically playing the same person, and the show trusts them to make that believable without ever explaining how a twenty-something and a woman thirty years her senior share one soul. It works because neither actress plays the role as a costume change — Lee Jung-eun’s Im Sun carries herself like someone who has actually failed a hundred job interviews and finally stopped caring what anyone thinks of her, and that specific confidence is what gets her through doors Mi-jin’s anxious twenty-something self would never survive. Miss Night and Day isn’t the first K-drama to hide a serious woman inside a comedic premise — Undercover Miss Hong runs a similar bait-and-switch with its lead, but it commits harder to the bit by making the two ages functionally different people with different instincts, not just different wardrobes.

Miss Night and Day (2024) — cinematic still

Choi Jin-hyuk’s Gye Ji-ung could have been a stock overworked prosecutor with a tragic backstory, and for stretches of the mystery plot he basically is. What saves him is how specifically the show writes his blind spots — he interrogates Im Sun about her uncanny knack for showing up at crime scenes for six straight episodes without once suspecting the actual, much stranger truth, because the strange truth is stranger than anything in his job description. Prosecutor dramas usually treat the badge as the character; Bad Prosecutor does something similar with a lead who has to unlearn his own instincts, and both shows are more interesting for making the job a flaw before it’s a strength.

The serial-killer plot is the part of Miss Night and Day that shouldn’t survive next to the workplace comedy, and for thirteen episodes it mostly doesn’t have to — it stays in the background, humming along under the jokes about pension plans and unpaid internships. Then Kwak Geum-hwa steps forward as an actual person with an actual motive, and the show has to decide, fast, whether its comedy engine can carry real stakes. It mostly can, if you’re willing to forgive some tonal whiplash in the last three episodes.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🎭 Anyone who wants a body-swap premise played for character work instead of just gags
⚖️ Fans of workplace mysteries where the intern is smarter than everyone in the room
💕 Viewers who like their romance with an actual mystery attached, not just a meet-cute

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
Lee Jung-eun and Jung Eun-ji’s dual performance sells a premise that could have been a one-joke gimmick
Choi Jin-hyuk gives the mystery plot enough weight to matter without swallowing the comedy
The serial-killer thread pays off instead of fizzling into a footnote

What to know first
The tonal gear-shift into thriller territory in the final stretch is abrupt if you came only for the rom-com
Some supporting arcs, Ko Won’s especially, get compressed to make room for the main mystery
The age-swap mechanic is never explained and isn’t meant to be — go in accepting that

8.2 / 10— A body-swap comedy that earns its serial-killer subplot instead of just tolerating it, carried by two actresses playing one woman with total conviction.
