Gongchan plays Eun-hwan’s guardedness as genuinely wounded rather than broodingly mysterious, which keeps the character sympathetic even during the stretches where his silence is the whole problem. Fans of Cheer Up‘s campus-romance energy will recognize the same DNA here, just compressed into a fraction of the runtime.
Ahn Se-min’s Woo-jin is the drama’s best trick — a second lead who’s charming enough that the love triangle actually feels like a choice instead of a foregone conclusion, which is rarer in this genre than it should be. Kim Jee-won plays Seo-ah’s manipulation with just enough restraint that she reads as a real person protecting her own insecurities rather than a cartoon villain, echoing the messier, more ambiguous rival dynamics of Nevertheless, at a fraction of that show’s emotional weight.
The trade-off for that efficiency is depth — at ten short episodes, nobody’s inner life gets much room to breathe beyond what’s needed to move the plot, and the finale’s big reveal leans on a miscommunication trope that a longer show might have handled with more nuance. It’s a satisfying bite-sized romance rather than a genre-defining one, and it mostly seems fine with that.
