Han Yi-han is a rising cardiothoracic surgeon three signatures away from everything he wants — a department chief title, a fiancée, and her brother Seok-ju’s successful heart transplant — when a secretive, unscheduled second surgery pulls him into a scheme he doesn’t understand until it’s already destroyed him. Seok-ju doesn’t survive, Yi-han is framed for the death, and the hospital that built its reputation on his skill lets him take the fall for a crime that was never his.
Five years later, he comes back not as a surgeon but as a malpractice lawyer, working the same kind of cases his old hospital thought it had buried for good. Doctor Lawyer spends sixteen episodes proving that a scalpel and a legal brief solve the same basic problem — finding exactly where something went wrong — and that Yi-han never stopped being the best in the room at either.

Episode-by-episode, spoiler-light — a refresher, not a rewatch.
EP 01
The Transplant Before the Fall
Jun 3, 2022
Han Yi-han proposes to Geum Seok-yeong between shifts, then walks straight into a heart transplant for her brother Seok-ju — a surgery he pulls off with the effortless confidence of a man who’s never lost a patient he cared about this much. Rival surgeon Goo Hyun-seong stews over losing the department chief title to him, and hospital director Goo Jin-gi rewards Yi-han’s loyalty with an envelope of cash and a second job: a secretive, unscheduled transplant for a patient whose name never gets said out loud.
EP 02
The Trial Begins
Jun 4, 2022
Seok-ju doesn’t survive the transplant, and within days Yi-han goes from grieving future brother-in-law to accused murderer, the hospital turning the surgery that should have saved a life into the case that ends his career. Seok-yeong watches the system she trusted close ranks against the man she was about to marry, and Yi-han loses his medical license before he even fully understands what he’s being punished for.
EP 03
Five Years, One Client
Jun 10, 2022
Five years on, Yi-han resurfaces as a lawyer instead of a surgeon, taking the case of Park Ki-tae — his old colleague, on trial for a child’s death he insists was never his fault. Across town, Jayden Lee, a polished executive fresh off a flight from the US, watches a robot-surgery demonstration at Banseok University Medical Center with the interest of a man who already knows more than he’s letting on.
EP 04
A Convenient Silence
Jun 11, 2022
Ki-tae is murdered in detention just as he’s about to walk free, killed by an inmate who happens to be the ex-husband of the nurse who assisted Seok-ju’s surgery — a coincidence Yi-han refuses to accept. He announces he’ll represent Banseok’s malpractice victims pro bono, and Seok-yeong, seeing her ex-fiancé in a courtroom instead of an OR for the first time, starts to grasp exactly how much has changed.
EP 05
Ghost Surgery
Jun 17, 2022
Idol trainee So-yeon walks into Yi-han’s law office with a case that sounds impossible: she lost her singing voice to a surgery she says was performed by someone other than the doctor she’d consented to. Banseok’s in-house fixer Pyo Eun-sil moves fast to bury the claim, and the pattern Yi-han’s been circling — a hospital that treats patients as interchangeable — finally gets a name attached to it.
EP 06
The Ghost Comes Forward
Jun 18, 2022
Choi Yo-sub, the surgeon who actually operated on So-yeon, breaks his silence and testifies that Banseok’s director forced him into a procedure he knew was too risky for the tumor’s location. The nerve damage that cost her voice wasn’t an accident — it was a corner cut under pressure, and it’s the first time someone inside the hospital has told the truth in open court.
EP 07
Face to Face
Jun 24, 2022
Yi-han confirms he can operate on Jun-hwan, the desperately ill son of a mother running out of options, but the more pressing collision is personal. This is the first time Yi-han has stood in the same room as Goo Jin-gi since the night that ended his career, and neither man says what he’s actually thinking.
EP 08
Running Out of Time
Jun 25, 2022
Jung-hyun has been holding out for a better option, but her son’s condition leaves her no room left to wait — she asks Yi-han to operate, fully aware of what it means to trust the same hospital that destroyed him with the surgeon it tried to erase. It’s a small scene built on a large risk, and it’s not entirely clear yet whether trusting him is the right call.
EP 09
What Yo-sub Owes
Jul 1, 2022
Yi-han operates on Jun-hwan with Choi Yo-sub scrubbed in beside him — the same doctor whose testimony blew up Banseok’s cover-up now redeeming himself with steady hands in the one place he still knows how to help. The surgery succeeds, but elsewhere a quieter betrayal unfolds: Hyuk-chul breaks a promise that was never going to hold.
EP 10
The Auction House
Jul 2, 2022
Su-nae’s boyfriend Jin-woo enters Yi-han’s orbit, tangled up in a family already under threat, while Jayden turns up at an auction house competing for something he wants badly enough to show his hand. Little gets resolved here, but the episode spends its runtime carefully setting pieces in motion for what’s coming.
EP 11
Taken
Jul 8, 2022
Yi-han discovers that Su-nae has been drugged and taken hostage by Goo Jin-gi, confirmation that the chairman’s reach extends well past hospital walls and into outright abduction once his position is threatened. In the boardroom, Jayden and Lim Yu-na go public with the truth about a shady R&D drug deal to win the board over — a smaller victory that will still cost them allies they need later.
EP 12
No Domestic Precedent
Jul 9, 2022
Su-nae’s transplant turns into the season’s most technical set piece: her body starts rejecting Jin-woo’s donated lung mid-surgery, and Yi-han improvises a backup no one’s tried in Korea before, grafting a section of Jin-woo’s remaining healthy lung to save her. It’s intercut with Lim Tae-moon and Yoon Mi-sun’s final debate before their election and Jayden quietly striking a deal with Lee Do-hyung in a gambling den — three different gambles, all playing out at once.
EP 13
The Footage
Jul 15, 2022
Yi-han pulls Yoon-seok out of the Gukkwang Gang’s grip just in time, but the episode’s real weapon is video: footage surfaces showing Goo Jin-gi personally killing Do-hyung, and it gets played in open hearing for the board, the press, and the audience alike to see. For a man who’s spent the whole season staying just out of frame, it’s the first time Jin-gi is caught directly doing his own dirty work.
EP 14
The Pen
Jul 16, 2022
Jin-gi and Yoon Mi-sun are finally arrested, and the win should feel bigger than it does — Yi-han is still chasing one unanswered question, the identity of the VIP patient who received Seok-ju’s heart five years ago. A fountain pen found on Do-hyung’s body, expensive and out of place, becomes the thread he can’t stop pulling.
EP 15
Someone Yi-han Knows
Jul 22, 2022
The pen leads Yi-han to a conclusion he can barely say out loud: Jayden is the VIP who received Seok-ju’s heart, which means the ally he’s spent the back half of the season working alongside has been living with a stolen truth the whole time. The reveal lands right as Jin-gi’s trial opens, and someone nobody expected walks into the courtroom to make it worse.
EP 16
What’s Left to Settle
Jul 23, 2022
Jayden gets his revenge the same way it was given to him, poisoning Jin-gi with a slow, fatal dose and watching him die able to say only his son Hyun-seong’s name. Hyun-seong, consumed by grief and rage, stabs Jayden at the airport before he can leave the country, and it’s Yi-han who ends up operating to save the life of the man who spent the season unknowingly carrying his fiancée’s brother’s heart. Jayden survives to tell Yi-han he never knew where his new heart came from, and to apologize to Seok-yeong on his behalf — a debt he can’t actually pay off from a hospital bed. Yi-han’s retrial clears him completely, and his colleagues at the law office plan to celebrate a win he never should have needed; he visits Jayden in prison anyway, and when Hyun-seong pleads for leniency on Jayden’s behalf, Jayden turns it down and chooses to serve his full sentence — the closest thing this story has to atonement that isn’t just talk.
🏁 Ending Explained
Everything the finale means, spoilers and all.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of Doctor Lawyer. Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.
Who really had Seok-ju’s heart Jayden Lee — the polished, mysterious executive who’s spent the season a half-step ahead of everyone — turns out to be the VIP patient who received Seok-ju’s heart the night Yi-han’s career ended. He never knew where it came from. Goo Jin-gi arranged the transplant off the books to save an investor worth protecting, then let Yi-han take the fall for a death nobody outside that operating room understood.
The reveal reframes five years of Yi-han’s assumptions about who owed him the truth. Jayden wasn’t hiding evidence — he was the last person in the building who genuinely didn’t know what he’d been given, which makes Jin-gi’s cover-up even more calculated: he weaponized an innocent man’s gratitude to keep his own crime buried.
Jayden’s revenge, and what it costs him Once the truth is out, Jayden poisons Jin-gi with the same slow-acting drug once used against him, engineering a death cruel enough to match what was taken from him — Jin-gi dies able to say only his son Hyun-seong’s name. Hyun-seong retaliates by stabbing Jayden at the airport, and Yi-han, the surgeon Jin-gi tried to erase, is the one who operates to save the life of the man who unknowingly carried his fiancée’s brother’s heart.
It’s a finale that refuses a clean villain-victim split until the very end — Jayden spends the episode both getting his revenge and receiving Yi-han’s mercy, and the show is explicit that those two things aren’t in tension with each other.
The KDW verdict Yi-han’s retrial clears his name completely, but Doctor Lawyer’s smartest choice is what it does with Jayden afterward — offered leniency, he turns it down and serves his sentence in full, refusing to let a stolen heart buy him an easy ending. It’s a finale earned less by plot twists than by every character finally being honest about what they owe each other.
✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take
Our honest opinion — and the kind of viewer who’ll love it most.
🫀 A Stolen Heart ⚖️ Surgeon Turned Litigator 🎭 Villain by Proxy 💉 Medicine as Motive
So Ji-sub spends Doctor Lawyer’s opening stretch doing something trickier than playing a wronged man — he plays a surgeon who still, five years later, thinks like one, reading a courtroom the way he used to read an OR. Ghost Doctor mined similar territory with its literal body-swap premise, but Doctor Lawyer’s version of medical horror is blunter and more procedural: a hospital that treats a stolen heart as an acceptable operating cost.
Shin Sung-rok’s Jayden Lee is the character the show trusts to carry its most uncomfortable idea — that being an unknowing beneficiary of someone else’s suffering doesn’t erase the debt. One Dollar Lawyer built its whole premise around a lawyer who refuses payment from institutions like Banseok; Doctor Lawyer follows one who takes every fight personally because, for him, it always has been.
The show is at its best in scenes that have nothing to do with courtroom theatrics — Choi Yo-sub’s quiet apology to So-yeon, or the wordless first meeting between Yi-han and Jin-gi in episode seven, land harder than any verdict does. Doctor Lawyer knows its genre hooks are what get people watching, but its real interest is in what people do with guilt once the trial’s over.
👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🫀 Viewers who want their medical drama to double as a courtroom thriller ⚖️ Fans of revenge stories where the hero fights with evidence instead of violence 🎭 Anyone who prefers a villain-adjacent character with an actual conscience
⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
•So Ji-sub grounds the revenge plot in a surgeon’s precision instead of raw anger
•Shin Sung-rok’s Jayden Lee turns a potential plot device into the show’s most morally interesting character
•The hospital-corruption throughline stays specific — named victims, named cover-ups — instead of vague institutional evil
What to know first
•16 episodes moves through a lot of plot — expect momentum over slow-burn atmosphere
•The finale asks you to feel sympathy for a man who just committed murder, and mostly earns it
•So-yeon’s ghost-surgery arc in episodes 5-6 is self-contained and doesn’t return later, which can feel like a detour
8.0 / 10— A medical-legal revenge thriller that trusts its lead actor’s stillness and its side characters’ guilt more than its courtroom fireworks, and mostly earns both.
