Chaebol Heiress

Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo-jung) runs Mirae Group with the kind of cold efficiency that makes enemies faster than allies — an adopted heiress who learned long ago that trusting people is a liability she can’t afford. Jeong Gu-won (Song Kang) is a 200-year-old demon who has spent two centuries binding desperate humans to soul contracts, extracting his price with the detached ease of someone who stopped feeling anything long before the industrial revolution.

Then one night, in the most inconvenient supernatural accident imaginable, all of Gu-won’s power transfers to Do-hee — leaving a centuries-old demon suddenly, humiliatingly, human. To reclaim his abilities, he needs to stay close to her. To stay alive while a shadowy killer hunts her, she needs someone who knows exactly how dangerous this world can get. Neither of them planned for what happens next. Neither of them sees it coming until it’s already too late to pretend it isn’t real.

My Demon Episode 7 — Stained Relationships

Stained Relationships
December 15, 2023

Breaking Through the Shell
December 23, 2023

My Demon Episode 12
EP 12
The Price of Old Deals

An unlikely alliance forms with time running out.

My Demon Episode 16 — Final Episode
EP 16
What Remains After the Contract Ends
January 20, 2024
The finale resolves all major threads — Noh Suk-min is imprisoned, Gu-won returns to Do-hee, and the couple chooses to spend whatever time they have together despite the impossible gap between a mortal life and an immortal one. Jin Ga-yeong’s arc reaches its most quietly powerful moment in the final scene. Ju Seok-hoon bows out with grace. Not everything is perfect. The parts that matter land.

🏁 Ending Explained

Full spoilers ahead — everything that happens in the finale and what it all means.

⚠️
Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of My Demon. Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.

The Sacrifice and the Silence. Episode 15 ends with Gu-won making the choice he has been avoiding — using what remains of his demonic power to protect Do-hee from the final threat, and in doing so, vanishing from the mortal world entirely. He doesn’t explain. He doesn’t say goodbye. He is simply gone, and Do-hee is left in the aftermath of a loss that nobody around her quite knows how to name, because how do you grieve someone who wasn’t supposed to be able to die?

My Demon (2023) Episode 15 — The Price He Pays

The Villain Gets His Answer. Noh Suk-min — the man behind the murders, the conspiracies, and the years of quiet violence against Do-hee — is ultimately imprisoned. The show handles his fate with the kind of restraint that frustrated many viewers: he survives. He is not destroyed. He is simply removed. For a drama that built him as such a persistent threat, the ending feels like a closed door rather than a reckoning, and the gap between what the story promised and what it delivered is the finale’s most honest weakness.

Gu-won Comes Back. He returns far sooner than expected — much sooner than the mythology of his disappearance seemed to warrant — and the reunion with Do-hee is warm but slightly rushed, as though the show ran out of room to sit with the weight of his absence. What works anyway is the clarity of what they choose: Do-hee is mortal and Gu-won is immortal, and neither of them pretends this is sustainable forever. They choose each other for the time they have, and the show treats that as enough — which, given how rarely K-drama fantasy romances are honest about this particular math, it is.

My Demon (2023) Episode 9 — The Unmasked Truth

Jin Ga-yeong’s Full Circle. The finale’s most earned moment belongs to a supporting character. Jin Ga-yeong — whose childhood abuse was revealed earlier in the series and whose arc tracked a woman still carrying the weight of what was done to her — encounters a young girl being hurt by her father in the final scene. Instead of looking away, she steps in. She protects the child the way Gu-won once protected her, and in doing so, she breaks the cycle that defined her. It is the quietest scene in the finale and the one that sticks longest.

What the Drama Was Actually About. My Demon is at its most interesting not in its supernatural mechanics — which never quite cohere into a consistent internal logic — but in what it does with the idea that the most dangerous contracts are the ones made out of love. Do-hee’s father signed his soul away for her survival. Gu-won bound himself to a woman for centuries without understanding why she felt different from everyone else he’d ever dealt with. The contract marriage between them started as convenience and became, quietly, the truest thing either of them had ever agreed to. A 200-year-old demon learns to feel something. It turns out that was the deal all along.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Our honest read on why this drama is worth your time — and who it’s for.

💗 Contract Romance Done Right
😈 Demon With Feelings
✨ Supernatural Charm
😂 Genuinely Funny
🥹 Quietly Devastating

The chemistry between Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung is not something that can be scripted — it either exists or it doesn’t, and in My Demon, it absolutely does. The show works best when it gets out of its own way and just lets these two people be ridiculous and tender in the same breath: a centuries-old demon who doesn’t understand why he keeps hovering over a woman he claims to find annoying, and a woman who has spent her entire life keeping everyone at arm’s length discovering that the one person she can’t shake is technically not a person at all. The first half of this drama earns its MDL score. The comedy lands, the romantic tension builds with real craft, and the contract marriage premise — one of the most overworked in K-drama — feels genuinely fresh because both leads play it with complete commitment and zero irony.

My Demon (2023) — cinematic still

The second half is where the cracks show. The villain plot — Noh Suk-min’s corporate scheming and the mystery surrounding Chairwoman Joo’s death — never becomes as compelling as the supernatural romance running alongside it, and episodes 11 through 14 feel like the show paying off obligations it made to its thriller elements at the expense of what it’s actually good at. The finale rushes Gu-won’s return in a way that undercuts the weight of episode 15’s sacrifice, and viewers hoping for a harder reckoning with the immortality question will leave somewhat unsatisfied. The show knows this is a weakness and doesn’t fully address it. Compare this to Lovely Runner, which commits to its supernatural premise with more structural discipline, or When the Phone Rings, which trusts its contract romance premise enough to let it carry the whole show.

And yet. Jin Ga-yeong’s arc — the supporting character who starts as a second lead antagonist and ends with the finale’s most quietly devastating scene — is proof that the writers had something real to say when they were writing at their best. The moment she steps in to protect a child the way Gu-won once protected her is the kind of full-circle payoff that most K-dramas never earn. My Demon is an imperfect drama with a perfect lead couple and one supporting character arc that justifies every one of its 16 episodes. Watch it for them. The contract ends. What’s left is something a 200-year-old demon didn’t see coming — and neither will you.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
💗 Fantasy romance fans who want genuine chemistry over plot mechanics
😈 Anyone who loves a supernatural male lead learning to feel things for the first time
🏙️ Viewers who want their contract marriage drama lush, cinematic, and a little bit funny

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung — one of 2023’s best lead couples
First half tight and charming — contract premise played with conviction
Jin Ga-yeong’s supporting arc — quietly the show’s best writing
Lush production design and genuinely funny comedic moments

What to know first
Villain plot never matches the romance — second half drags noticeably
Gu-won’s return in the finale is rushed — sacrifice loses its weight
Immortality vs mortality left genuinely unresolved
Main villain survives — justice feels partial, not complete

8.3 / 10A fantasy romance that lives and dies by its leads — and Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung are worth every one of its 16 episodes.
