Joon-ki runs the Waikiki guesthouse and wants to be a famous actor. His high-school friends Woo-sik, a would-be musician, and Ki-bong, a baseball player, have put money into the place, and the three of them are behind on the rent. Then a meteor hits the building, and the first problem of the season is how to hide that from the landlady.

The arrival that reshapes the household is Soo-yeon, the friends’ first love. Her wedding has been called off and she has to learn to earn her own money, which puts her under the same roof as the people who once liked her. Jung-eun, Joon-ki’s university friend who wants to act, and Woo-sik’s older sister Yu-ri, who wants her own restaurant, round out a group in which every romance starts out as something nobody will admit to. Lee Yi-kyung is the only lead who returns from the first season.

Welcome to Waikiki (Season 2) Episode 16 — Goodbye, Waikiki EP 16
Goodbye, Waikiki
May 14, 2019
The finale puts the season’s three open questions to bed: whether Yu-ri and Ki-bong’s relationship comes out, whether Soo-yeon admits she likes Woo-sik, and whether Joon-ki understands why Jung-eun dating someone else bothers him. In OSEN’s account a CCTV clip exposes Yu-ri and Ki-bong, her pregnancy follows and Ki-bong proposes, while Woo-sik releases his first single as Soo-yeon’s father urges a move to the US. The Ending Explained section below covers how press reports describe each answer.

🏁 Ending Explained

Spoiler territory from here — the finale, fully unpacked.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of Welcome to Waikiki (Season 2). Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.

Woo-sik and Soo-yeon settle it The Fact’s finale report has Soo-yeon leaving for the United States with her father, then coming back and kissing Woo-sik to show him how she feels. Newsis words it more briefly, saying the two confirm their feelings for each other.

Welcome to Waikiki (Season 2) (2019) — Woo-sik and Soo-yeon in a finale scene

Joon-ki finally names it Joon-ki and Jung-eun end the series as a couple, a point both Newsis and The Fact report. The Fact adds the route: Joon-ki tries to date someone else out of jealousy and realises in the process that what he feels for Jung-eun is love. That follows from episode 15, where he sees her with another man and cannot hide how it lands.

Ki-bong and Yu-ri come out in the open The secret relationship between Ki-bong and Yu-ri is exposed when Woo-sik catches them kissing, according to The Fact. The same report says Yu-ri’s pregnancy then comes out and Ki-bong proposes with a championship ring. Newsis describes it as a marriage; The Fact describes a promise to marry. The two accounts agree on the direction and differ on how far the finale takes it.

Welcome to Waikiki (Season 2) (2019) — A woman in a red coat tears up while clasping a hand, with a man blurred in the foreground

The three questions the finale was asked The episode 16 synopsis asked three things: would everyone learn about Ki-bong and Yu-ri, would Soo-yeon realise she likes Woo-sik, and would Joon-ki see that he is jealous of Jung-eun’s date. Going by the two reports, all three get a yes. Each of the three guesthouse friends ends the season paired with the person the story had been steering them toward.

What the reports leave out Neither report we read says what happens to the guesthouse itself, or whether Woo-sik’s music and Joon-ki’s acting careers move forward. Treat the coupling outcomes above as the confirmed part of the ending and anything beyond them as unreported. The finale drew 1.3% nationwide on TNMS’s paid-household count (Kyunghyang).

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Our honest opinion — and the kind of viewer who’ll love it most.

🏠 Guesthouse Chaos 🎭 Struggling Dreamers 💕 Three Slow Burns ☄️ Meteor on the Roof

A meteor lands on the roof in the first episode and the show never raises the stakes much higher than the rent. That is a choice, and it fits a sequel to Welcome to Waikiki (Season 1), where the comedy also came from small failures. The second season swaps most of the cast but keeps the structure: a group of friends, a failing business and a handful of careers that are not going anywhere yet.

Welcome to Waikiki (Season 2) (2019) — cinematic still

The episode synopses show how the writers spread the romance around. Woo-sik gets the first-love storyline with Soo-yeon, Joon-ki and Jung-eun circle each other through auditions and jealousy, and Ki-bong and Yu-ri start with a blind date and a food truck. Viewers who like the underdog-and-friends mix of Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo will see a similar balance of work worries and romance.

The ratings were modest, and an industry source quoted at the time said the story followed season 1 closely and felt less fresh for longtime viewers. Newcomers were reported to enjoy the humour. That split is a fair guide to who the season is for.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🏠 Fans of share-house and found-family stories 😂 Viewers who like small-stakes workplace and friendship comedy 💕 Anyone who wants several light romances running at once

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
•A simple, easy-to-follow premise built on rent and unfinished dreams
•Each of the three main romances gets a clear resolution in the finale
•The sequel can be followed without seeing the first season

What to know first
•Ratings and press commentary at the time say it followed season 1’s pattern
•Only Lee Yi-kyung returns from the first season’s leads
•Streaming availability varies by region

Rating pending— A light, friendship-first sequel whose ending resolves all three romances.
