Baek Dong-joo has just started work as a funeral director when she discovers that, for a few minutes in the funeral home’s powder room, she can bring the recently dead back to talk. It is a gift she treats more like a curse: if she does not grant their last wishes, her days fill with accidents and bad luck. Her first encounter, with a little boy who comes back to life in front of her, frightens her so badly that she runs, and she counts down the clients she has left before she can walk away from it.

Her path crosses with Kim Tae-hee, who works as an errand man for his uncle Vincent’s new company, A Dime a Job, and who is hired by her own boyfriend to break up with her. From there their work keeps overlapping, a comedy of odd jobs and awkward funerals that gradually turns into a romance, and into an old case, a boy’s death on a rainy night, that neither of them can leave alone.

Dal-sik dies in an accident while saving a pregnant woman, and he becomes Dong-joo’s final client. They have hours together in the powder room, and he does her hair the way he did when she was small and asks her to stay happy. Afterwards she sends the kimchi they made to everyone she knows, while the neighbourhood honours him as a hero. Her words about saving lives send Tae-hee back to hospital work, Dong-joo takes up funeral directing for good, and the finale explains the origin of her gift. The details are in the Ending Explained section below.

🏁 Ending Explained

The finale, unpacked in full. Consider yourself warned.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of May I Help You?. Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.

The two leads end up where they belong Both finale write-ups agree on the shape of the ending: Dong-joo and Tae-hee each go back to the work that suits them, and they do it together. Newstomato describes Dong-joo and Tae-hee choosing lives where they pass hope and comfort to people in need, as a funeral director and a doctor, and High On Films has Tae-hee return to the hospital after Dong-joo tells him he is someone who can save lives. High On Films adds that Vincent gets a call from an investor who will help him expand A Dime a Job, and that So-ra and Il-sub begin dating. Newstomato quotes the closing narration: “Are you alive? Are you dead? How may I help you?”

May I Help You? (2022) — Dong-joo and Tae-hee hand in hand on a quiet hillside road

Dal-sik’s death The finale’s blow lands on Dong-joo’s family. Her father, Baek Dal-sik, dies in an accident while saving a pregnant woman. Newstomato adds that she was about to give birth and had triplets, so his death saved four lives and mourners came from across the country. He arrives at the funeral home as Dong-joo’s last client. Newstomato quotes him saying he had begged for just one minute with her, grateful for the miracle after death, and High On Films says they spent hours together, remembering happier days, with him doing her hair the way he did when she was young.

The kimchi and the bankbook After the funeral, Newstomato reports, Dong-joo finds a bankbook in her father’s empty room where he had been quietly saving for her wedding. She wanted more people to remember him for longer, so she shared the kimchi she had made with him among those who knew him. High On Films says she sent it to everyone she knew, to spread the love, and that the neighbourhood now treats him as a local hero. It is the quietest stretch of the finale, and it suits the show, which has spent sixteen episodes treating small errands as the real work.

May I Help You? (2022) — Dong-joo and her father making kimchi on the living-room floor

Who caused Joon-ho’s death The murder mystery closes in episode 15, and only High On Films covers it in detail. Hae-ahn, who was driving the truck, is stopped on the rooftop by Tae-hee and handed to the police; he apologises to Dong-joo and points her to the dashcam memory card, and he is sentenced to 14 years. Tae-hee meets Joon-ho in a dream, where the boy tells him it was not his fault and he should move on. We found no second source for the sentence or the dream, so treat those details as one recapper’s account.

The secret behind Dong-joo’s gift The last loose end is why Dong-joo can talk to the dead. Newstomato says she and Tae-hee were both survivors of the Bongsu Electric fire, that her mother saved Tae-hee and died after giving birth to her, and that the people Dong-joo met as clients had helped her be born. High On Films puts the death toll at 21, the same number as the wind chime in the powder room, and describes Father Michael with a scrapbook of clippings about the fire. After her father, the last client, she no longer meets the dead. Newstomato says the ability is gone but she chooses to stay a funeral director; High On Films adds a joke that the gift passes to a colleague, which only that recap reports.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Here’s our real take, and exactly who this one’s for.

🕊️ Last Wishes 🍂 Autumn Romance 🔎 A Slow-Burn Mystery 🧺 Comfort Healing

Most K-dramas about the dead are about unfinished business, and May I Help You is no exception: Dong-joo can talk to the recently deceased for a few minutes, and what they want is almost never grand. A bouquet, a lottery cheque delivered to a wife, a dance video uploaded for a girl who wanted to be a pop star. Viewers who liked the small-favour structure of Oh My Ghost Clients will recognise the format, with the errand of the week doing quiet emotional work before the larger story moves.

May I Help You? (2022) — cinematic still

What separates it from Hotel Del Luna and the other afterlife dramas is how little it dwells on the afterlife itself. High On Films notes that the romance between Dong-joo and Tae-hee moves quickly: she confesses the moment she realises how she feels, and there is no drawn-out misunderstanding because of his ex, Chung-ha. That same recap says the dead-people storyline takes a back seat as the series goes on, and from the middle episodes that is accurate. The Joon-ho mystery carries more of the weight, and its truth, that the officer who walked past the crash was the one who caused it, arrives late.

The finale is gentle. It loses Dong-joo’s father, answers where her gift came from, and then lets both leads return to the jobs they were meant for. Whether that sentimentality works for you will decide how you feel about the whole show.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🕊️ Viewers who like gentle fantasy about last wishes and closure 💞 Anyone who wants a romance without a long misunderstanding arc 🔎 Fans of mysteries that build slowly around one old accident

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
•A romance that moves forward instead of stalling on misunderstandings
•Small, specific last wishes that give each client episode its own emotional point
•Every storyline, including the origin of Dong-joo’s gift, is resolved in the finale

What to know first
•The supernatural cases take a back seat once the Joon-ho mystery starts
•The key truth about Joon-ho’s death arrives only in the last three episodes
•Episode summaries draw mainly on one recap series plus TMDB, so small details may differ from the broadcast

Rating pending— A warm, small-scale fantasy that is at its best when it keeps the favours small.
