Jo Eun-su (Jeon So-nee) and Jo Hui-su (Lee You-mi) are childhood best friends carrying very different versions of the same wound. Eun-su grew up hiding from her father’s violence; Hui-su, a once-promising children’s book author, now lives in daily fear of her husband, Noh Jin-pyo (Jang Seung-jo). When Hui-su’s marriage tips from unbearable into life-threatening, the two women reach the same desperate conclusion at the same time — that murder might be the only door out.

What follows isn’t a clean getaway. Their plan draws the attention of Jin-pyo’s sister, a detective with her own reasons to keep the truth buried, and pulls in Jin So-baek (Lee Mu-saeng), a quietly persistent ally who refuses to let the women face the fallout alone. The deeper the cover-up goes, the more the story becomes less about whether they got away with it and more about what they’re willing to admit, and to whom.

📺 Episode Guide

Spoiler-light recaps — enough to remember where you left off, nothing that ruins the ride.

As You Stood By Episode 1 — Old Wounds
EP 01
Old Wounds
November 7, 2025
Jo Eun-su’s hunt for a missing luxury watch turns into something stranger when she tracks down the man who took it — a small mystery that doubles as the show’s way of introducing her sharp, controlled exterior. Jeon So-nee plays Eun-su with a watchfulness that never quite relaxes, and a visit to her mother peels back the first layer of why. The home she grew up in still has its own quiet violence humming underneath. It’s a deliberately slow opener, and that restraint is the point.

As You Stood By Episode 2 — Behind Closed Doors
EP 02
Behind Closed Doors
November 7, 2025
The show pivots fully to Jo Hui-su, and Lee You-mi spends the episode disappearing into a kind of fear that’s hard to watch and harder to look away from. Years of abuse from her husband have worn her down to flinches and silence, and the episode doesn’t soften any of it. What emerges instead is the bond between Hui-su and Eun-su — two women who recognize each other’s damage without needing to explain it. By the end, an exit that isn’t legal has stopped feeling like a line they won’t cross.

As You Stood By Episode 3 — The Plan Begins
EP 03
The Plan Begins
November 7, 2025
Eun-su and Hui-su commit to the murder plan, and the episode treats the decision with the weight it deserves rather than rushing past it. Jang Seung-jo’s Noh Jin-pyo stays mostly offscreen here, which somehow makes him scarier — a threat the women are organizing their entire lives around. Every choice they make from this point is a reaction to him. The preparation itself becomes the tension.

As You Stood By Episode 4 — Covering Tracks
EP 04
Covering Tracks
November 7, 2025
A direct confrontation with Jin-pyo forces Eun-su and Hui-su to move faster than planned, and the episode’s best stretch is watching two amateurs improvise under pressure. Small mistakes start to matter. The show keeps the cover-up feeling plausible rather than convenient, which keeps the tension from collapsing into contrivance. By the final scene, the margin for error has gotten noticeably thinner.

As You Stood By Episode 5 — Cracks in the Story
EP 05
Cracks in the Story
November 7, 2025
The aftermath starts to destabilize everything the women thought they’d secured, and outside pressure shifts the show from a story about escaping abuse into a story about surviving suspicion. The danger is no longer confined to one household — it’s spreading. Lee You-mi’s Hui-su carries most of the emotional weight here, visibly buckling under the strain of a lie she never wanted to tell. The walls are closing in slower than expected, which somehow makes it worse.

As You Stood By Episode 6 — Who's Protecting Whom
EP 06
Who’s Protecting Whom
November 7, 2025
Hidden motives start surfacing among the people around Eun-su and Hui-su, and the alliances that felt solid a few episodes ago no longer do. The show widens its scope here, and new revelations complicate who’s actually on the women’s side. It’s the episode where “ally” stops meaning anything simple. Trust becomes the most dangerous currency in the show.

As You Stood By Episode 7 — No Way Back
EP 07
No Way Back
November 7, 2025
The consequences of the murder plan finally arrive in full, and Eun-su and Hui-su are pushed into decisions that have no clean version. The episode moves with real urgency, cutting between the women’s unraveling situation and the people closing in around them. There’s no version of this ending quietly anymore. Whatever happens next, somebody has to answer for it.

As You Stood By Episode 8 — What the Truth Costs
EP 08
What the Truth Costs
November 7, 2025
The finale resolves the central conflict by forcing a reckoning with the abuse that started everything, and the courtroom becomes less about legal technicality than about who the show has asked us to believe all along. Eun-su and Hui-su’s choices are examined in full, and the ending lands on accountability rather than a clean escape. It doesn’t excuse what they did — it just refuses to pretend they had a better option.

🏁 Ending Explained

Full spoilers ahead — everything that happens in the finale and what it all means.

Spoiler Warning — This section covers the full finale of As You Stood By. Stop here if you haven’t finished the series.

The Cover-Up Starts to Crack. After Hui-su kills Jin-pyo in what the show frames as a final act of self-defense after years of escalating abuse, she and Eun-su build an elaborate story around it — hiring a day laborer who resembles Jin-pyo and staging his disappearance as a man fleeing the country over an embezzlement scandal. It almost holds. What it can’t account for is Jin-pyo’s sister, Noh Jin-young, a detective who refuses to let her brother’s case go cold and starts pulling at threads the women thought were buried for good.

As You Stood By (2025) — the cover-up begins to unravel

Jin-young’s Cover-Up Escalates. Rather than pursuing the truth cleanly, Jin-young and her mother Ko Jeong-suk go to increasingly illegal lengths to protect the family’s reputation — deleting evidence, bribing her way past her own superiors, and holding a man named Jang Kang against his will to keep him quiet. The show frames this as its own kind of abuse: institutional power used to silence rather than to protect. Jin-young isn’t a villain by accident. She’s what happens when complicity gets a badge.

Hui-su’s Breaking Point. Hui-su disappears, and the show lets the dread build before revealing why: Jin-young has found her and is trying to stage her death as a suicide. Officer Choi Gyeong-gu, working the case from outside Jin-young’s reach, recovers CCTV footage she thought she’d deleted — buying just enough time for Jin So-baek and Eun-su to track Hui-su down and pull her back from the edge. It’s the closest the show comes to a conventional thriller set-piece, and it earns the tension.

As You Stood By (2025) — Hui-su's breaking point

Confession as Liberation. Instead of disappearing further into the lie, Hui-su turns herself in and confesses to killing Jin-pyo; Eun-su follows and admits to helping plan the cover-up. The show is careful to frame this as the opposite of defeat. After years of hiding — from Jin-pyo, from Eun-su’s own father, from a system that kept asking them to stay quiet — choosing to speak becomes the first thing either woman has controlled completely on her own terms.

The Trial. The courtroom scenes are less interested in legal technicality than in forcing a reckoning with what the show has been arguing all along. Hui-su describes years of violence that built toward an act she frames as the only way out left to her. Eun-su talks about a childhood spent hiding with her brother while her father beat her mother — and why she refused to watch a friend live the same story to its end. The court is bound by law, but the show makes sure the audience is judging something else entirely.

As You Stood By (2025) — the courtroom reckoning

Jin-young and Jeong-suk’s Fall. Both are arrested on multiple charges, including concealing evidence of domestic abuse, and the public unraveling is swift. Jin-young’s career as a detective collapses entirely — the very institution she weaponized to protect her family turns on her once the cover-up is exposed. Jeong-suk keeps insisting on her and her son’s innocence outside the courtroom, but by then nobody is left who’s willing to stand by her.

A New Beginning. After serving their sentences — Eun-su released first, Hui-su following later — the two women reunite and start over in Vietnam alongside Jin So-baek, the one adult in the story who never asked anything of them in return. Eun-su returns the judo belt from the dojo where she used to train out her fear, a small gesture that reads as her finally setting that fear down. It doesn’t excuse what they did — it just refuses to pretend they had a better option.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Our honest read on why this drama is worth your time — and who it’s for.

🌙 Dark & Heavy😤 Quietly Enraging👭 Friendship Under Fire⚖️ Morally Complicated

Lee You-mi has spent the last few years building a reputation for precision in pain — Ji-yeong in Squid Game, now Hui-su — and As You Stood By might be the role that proves it wasn’t a fluke. She plays years of accumulated fear with almost no exaggeration: flinches too small to be performative, silences that say more than dialogue could. Jeon So-nee matches her as Eun-su, whose competence reads like its own kind of trauma response. Together they make the decision to kill feel less like a thriller premise and more like an inevitability the show has been building toward since the first flashback.

As You Stood By (2025) — cinematic still

The divisive part is the back half. Once Hui-su and Eun-su’s plan succeeds, the show pivots into a procedural about covering it up — and that’s where opinions split. Some of it works: a detective sister-in-law investigating her own brother’s death adds a genuinely uncomfortable layer of complicity. Some of it doesn’t: a kidnapped-and-recaptured side villain plays more like comic relief than the show seems to realize, undercutting the seriousness it’s asking from everywhere else. The tonal whiplash is real, but the central relationship is steady enough to carry it through.

As You Stood By is at its best when it trusts its two leads and its subject matter to do the work without embellishment — which covers most of the first five episodes. It loses some of that discipline once the plot machinery takes over, and the finale’s pivot to courtroom catharsis feels slightly rushed given everything it’s trying to resolve. Still, what it gets right — the specific, unglamorous texture of an abusive marriage, and a friendship that survives the unspeakable — is rare enough to forgive the rest. Some friendships are built on secrets you’d kill to keep.
