A Love Other Than Yours

Straight talk on whether this one’s worth watching, and for who.

Ten years is long enough that a relationship stops being a series of decisions and starts being a default setting — which is exactly the trap A Love Other Than Yours sets up before it does anything else. Namgung Ho treats marriage as the obvious next beat in a story that’s already been written; Lee Mi-do is the one starting to wonder whether she’s still reading from the same script. Strangers Again worked a similar seam a few years back — a long relationship examined through slow erosion of certainty rather than one dramatic betrayal.

What makes the pairing interesting is that neither Seo Kang-joon nor Ahn Eun-jin is playing a villain in the making. New feelings arriving uninvited for both of them, right as their decade-long relationship is supposed to graduate into marriage, is a messier and more honest premise than a straightforward affair plot. Motel California found real feeling in that same register — love stories where nobody is entirely right and nobody is entirely wrong.
