Hidden SecretsMother-Daughter RelationshipPrejudiceHealingDaily Drama

Na Ji-ni has been the reason her family fell apart for as long as she can remember — that’s the story everyone around her settled on before she was old enough to argue back. She still wants to make Korean animation good enough to travel the world, which means carrying that reputation into every room she walks into. Her mother, Na Se-ri, built a second, cleaner story instead: a celebrated cellist with a spotless public image, and a private one nobody’s allowed to see.

Family Register spends its daily-drama runtime pulling those two stories apart, and adds a third woman to the mix — No Yeong-ju, a singing instructor who spent years making everyone else’s life easier before deciding to try it for herself. MBC’s 120-episode format gives all three room to actually earn their reconciliation instead of rushing it, one 35-minute episode at a time.

📺 Episode Guide

Recaps that jog the memory, not spoil the ride.

Family Register Episode 1 — A Daughter Everyone Blames EP 01
A Daughter Everyone Blames
Jul 6, 2026
Na Ji-ni has spent her whole life absorbing blame for a family collapse she didn’t cause, and this episode shows exactly how that blame gets assigned before she’s given a chance to speak. She keeps pushing toward her dream of making K-animation anyway, treating the work as the one thing nobody’s opinion can touch. Her mother Na Se-ri gets introduced through her public image first — celebrated cellist, flawless reputation — before the episode starts showing the gap between that image and the woman underneath it.

Family Register Episode 2 — Cracks in a Perfect Life EP 02
Cracks in a Perfect Life
Jul 7, 2026
The distance between Na Ji-ni and her mother stops being implied and starts becoming specific, as Ji-ni pushes back against expectations she never agreed to carry. Se-ri’s composure gets a few visible cracks this episode, small enough to explain away but real enough to notice. No Yeong-ju enters the story here too, introduced as a singing instructor whose cheerful front does a lot of covering for a much harder personal history.

Family Register Episode 3 — Looking for Her Own Path EP 03
Looking for Her Own Path
Jul 8, 2026
Ji-ni’s resolve to build a life on her own terms gets tested directly by the prejudice that’s followed her since childhood, and the episode doesn’t let that prejudice stay abstract — it shows up in specific looks and specific comments. Rather than retreat, she starts building connections outside her immediate family, and the show treats it as simple self-preservation. Yeong-ju’s own arc picks up momentum too, as she starts making choices for herself after years of making them for everyone else.

Family Register Episode 4 — What the Family Won't Say EP 04
What the Family Won’t Say
Jul 9, 2026
Old grievances stop staying buried, and the family’s unspoken history starts pulling at the surface tension that’s been holding everyone together. Se-ri’s control over her own narrative gets harder to maintain, and the episode is more interested in what that costs her than in punishing her for it. The generational weight of the family’s secrets becomes explicit here — Ji-ni inherited this story before she was old enough to have a say in it.

Family Register Episode 5 — Three Women, One Question EP 05
Three Women, One Question
Jul 10, 2026
Ji-ni finds herself asking what family is actually supposed to mean, past the version she grew up being blamed inside of. The show starts drawing clearer lines between her story, her mother’s, and Yeong-ju’s, suggesting all three are working through versions of the same problem from different angles. It’s a quieter episode than the four before it, more setup than confrontation, and it uses the space to make the connection between the three women feel inevitable rather than convenient.

Family Register Episode 6 — The Cracks Start Showing EP 06
The Cracks Start Showing
Jul 13, 2026
Min-gi’s health takes a critical turn, and Se-ri’s composure finally breaks watching it happen — the first time her control over the family narrative looks genuinely out of her hands. Ji-hu, meanwhile, starts noticing the seams in Do-hee’s stories, the doubt and discord she’s been quietly manufacturing finally visible enough to question. It’s the first real crack in Do-hee’s facade, and it’s enough to send Ji-hu back to reconsider everything he thought he understood about Ji-ni.

Family Register Episode 7 — Two Funerals, One Grudge EP 07
Two Funerals, One Grudge
Jul 14, 2026
Min-gi’s funeral turns into the family’s ugliest public fight yet, Yeong-ju and Se-ri finally colliding over history neither one has let go of. Yeong-ju’s grief is real; Se-ri’s response is to set up a rival funeral parlor instead of mourning, which tells its own story about which of them ever actually loved him. The betrayal that split these families years ago doesn’t get resolved by his death — if anything, it gets aired out loud, in front of everyone who’s spent years pretending it wasn’t there.

Family Register Episode 8 — Seeing Past the Prejudice EP 08
Seeing Past the Prejudice
Jul 15, 2026
Yeong-ju stops reacting and makes her own bold move, exactly as Do-hee reappears at the worst possible moment to stir the fractured families up again. The real shift belongs to Ji-hu, though — he sees a new, assertive side of Ji-ni that doesn’t match the version of her he’d assumed was true, and it rattles him more than Do-hee’s manipulation does. Do-hee keeps working to turn him against her, but for the first time, Ji-hu is starting to see past the prejudice that’s followed Ji-ni her whole life instead of through it.

Family Register Episode 9 — What Greed Looks Like Up Close EP 09
What Greed Looks Like Up Close
Jul 16, 2026
Min-gi’s death turns straight into an inheritance war, and the fight over his assets strips away whatever pretense of dignity this family had left. Do-hee watches Ji-hu drift closer to Ji-ni and reacts exactly how you’d expect — more jealous, more manipulative, more determined to sabotage something that’s clearly already working despite her. A strange phone call to Seung-woo’s girlfriend plants a subplot that doesn’t pay off yet, but the real story here is how much money changes what people are willing to say out loud about each other.

Family Register Episode 10 — The Guest Se-ri Didn't See Coming EP 10
The Guest Se-ri Didn’t See Coming
Jul 17, 2026
The inheritance fight hits its ugliest point yet, and it’s what finally exposes who everyone in this family actually is underneath the performance. Ji-hu sees another new side of Ji-ni and this time it sticks — their reunion at an art exhibition plays warmer than anything between them so far, real affection instead of grudging respect. Se-ri gets blindsided by a surprise guest that upends both her inheritance strategy and her personal life in one move, and the episode closes on Ji-hu physically confronting someone in the street.

Family Register Episode 11 — Clearing Ji-ni's Name EP 11
Clearing Ji-ni’s Name
With Ji-ni’s name still on the line, Jung-a steps up to fight for her innocence — a fresh ally at a point where she badly needs one. Away from that fight, Seung-woo gets caught up in real danger, attacked in an incident tied to Jeong-won. Two separate threads, both landing at once, and neither looks like it’s resolving quietly.

Family Register Episode 12 — What the Attack Was Already Saying EP 12
What the Attack Was Already Saying
Seung-woo’s connection to Jeong-won stops being a secret, and it lands as the other half of what last episode’s attack was already pointing toward — less a twist than a confirmation, and it still guts him. Elsewhere, Se-ri turns up an overseas investment contract Min-gi left behind and takes it straight to Seung-hyeon instead of sitting on it. Two threads that started separately keep tightening into the same rope.

Family Register Episode 13 — Se-ri Plays Both Cards at Once EP 13
Se-ri Plays Both Cards at Once
Ji-hu finally goes looking for what actually connects Ji-ni and Do-hee, instead of reacting to it piecemeal — a direct move building since he first saw through Do-hee’s manipulation. Se-ri, meanwhile, weaponizes what happened to Seung-woo alongside the still-unresolved share dispute, using both at once to pressure Seo Chon rather than picking one front. It’s the most calculated she’s looked all season.

Family Register Episode 14 — Two Crises, One Roof EP 14
Two Crises, One Roof
Se-ri and Ji-ni end up facing the same crisis instead of two separate ones this time — a shift after weeks of these two orbiting the same conflicts without ever being on the same side. The bigger disruption comes from outside the family drama entirely: Tae-o makes Ji-ni an offer she isn’t expecting, right as O-reum’s numbers turn bad enough to rattle all of Seo Chon. Neither problem waits for the other to get solved first.

Family Register Episode 15 — Do-hee Stops Pretending EP 15
Do-hee Stops Pretending
Se-ri isn’t just influencing Cha Production from the outside anymore — she’s running it now, and the first real decision under her name is a gamble the company might not survive if it goes wrong. Meanwhile Do-hee’s jealousy finally stops being subtext: she grabs Ji-ni by the hair in the middle of a cafe, in front of whoever happens to be watching. Weeks of manipulation just turned into something nobody can pretend didn’t happen.

Family Register Episode 16 — An Unexpected Travel Companion EP 16
An Unexpected Travel Companion
Se-ri leaves Seo Chon behind for Donghae, but not alone — Sa-bin goes with her, which is its own small mystery given how close he’s grown to Yeong-ju instead. Back home, Ji-ni pays a secret visit to O-reum, Seung-hyeon’s young son, and whatever she says or does there is enough to set off a real fight before she’s even out the door. Two quiet trips, one loud consequence.

Family Register Episode 17 — A Bond That Wasn't Built On Agenda EP 17
A Bond That Wasn’t Built On Agenda
Ji-ni lands an investment substantial enough to change her actual trajectory, not just her standing in the family — and for once the good news doesn’t come wrapped in someone else’s agenda. It brings her closer to Ji-hu, the kind of bond that’s been building in fits and starts since he first saw past what everyone assumed about her. Meanwhile the fight to keep O-reum afloat becomes Seo Chon’s fight too, not just Seung-hyeon’s alone.

Family Register Episode 18 — The First Real Crack EP 18
The First Real Crack
Ji-hu starts doubting what he actually has with Do-hee, the first real crack in a relationship this show spent the last few episodes rebuilding. Ji-ni, meanwhile, gets a genuine showcase moment at Joong-bin’s publishing house — real recognition, earned on her own work rather than family politics for once. Yeong-ju pays Se-ri a visit of her own, a pairing this drama hasn’t put in one room together in a while.

Family Register Episode 19 — What Dr. Hwang Said EP 19
What Dr. Hwang Said
Dr. Hwang delivers news that visibly shakes Ji-ni, though the show holds back exactly what was said — just her reaction, which is answer enough that it’s serious. Seung-woo, separately, quits his job at the station outright, a clean break after everything that’s piled up around him these past few episodes. Se-ri’s ambitions for Cha Production go global in the meantime, dreaming past Seo Chon’s usual battles toward overseas expansion.

Family Register Episode 20 — Ji-ni Stops Asking Permission EP 20
Ji-ni Stops Asking Permission
Ji-ni makes a call without looping Se-ri in at all — a choice that reads less like rebellion than someone finally trusting her own judgment over the family’s usual chain of approval. Seung-hyeon, elsewhere, makes a demand of Yeong-ju that lands as genuinely hurtful, not just another negotiation between two people used to sparring. Whatever happens to Ji-ni next is serious enough that Ji-hu drops everything to get to her.

Family Register Episode 21 — No More Managing the Narrative EP 21
No More Managing the Narrative
The Seo Chon family’s cracks finally become impossible to paper over, and this time no amount of managing the narrative saves face. Yeong-ju makes a decision of her own in the middle of the wreckage — one the show frames as overdue rather than sudden. Ji-ni and Ji-hu, meanwhile, face something closer to a trial than a setback, the kind of test this relationship hasn’t had to survive yet.

Family Register Episode 22 — Worry, Not Suspicion EP 22
Worry, Not Suspicion
Se-ri hasn’t let up on watching Ji-ni since whatever happened last episode — close enough that it reads more like worry than suspicion now. Seo Chon actually gets good news for once, though it comes tangled up with Sa-bin causing a genuine mix-up on the side. Do-hee, true to form, finds a new way to confuse Ji-hu just when things were starting to feel settled.

Family Register Episode 23 — A Secret Just for Two EP 23
A Secret Just for Two
Ji-ni and Yeong-ju end up sharing something neither of them says out loud to anyone else — a real secret, not just an alliance of convenience. Ji-hu and Do-hee finally clash outright instead of circling each other, the confrontation this relationship’s cracks have been building toward. Seok-kyung, meanwhile, starts changing in a way the show clearly wants noticed — small now, but not nothing.

Family Register Episode 24 — A Secret That Keeps Demanding More EP 24
A Secret That Keeps Demanding More
Whatever Ji-ni and Seo Chon are sitting on together gets heavier this episode — not a new secret, just the old one demanding more from both of them. The fallout lands hardest on Se-ri and Ji-ni, and it’s not the kind of revelation either of them gets to just absorb and move past. Mother and daughter are headed toward something neither can walk back from quietly.

Family Register Episode 25 — Seung-woo Finally Catches a Break EP 25
Seung-woo Finally Catches a Break
Ji-hu and Ji-ni keep drifting closer, unhurried about it in a way that actually reads as real rather than a plot device stalling for time. Seung-woo finally catches a break — a genuine chance, the first thing that’s gone right for him in a while. Se-ri’s crisis deepens on one front while Seo Chon makes a demand strange enough that even the family seems unsettled by it.

Family Register Episode 26 — A Proposal With New Terms EP 26
A Proposal With New Terms
Yeong-ju makes Se-ri a genuinely bold proposal — the kind that shifts the terms between them rather than just asking for something small. Do-hee and Ji-hu patch things up, at least for now, after the clash that had been building for episodes. Ji-ni and Se-ri don’t get the same relief; another storm is already rolling in for them, right on schedule.

Family Register Episode 27 — A Rare Break From Crisis Mode EP 27
A Rare Break From Crisis Mode
Something like joy actually makes it back into Seo Chon for once, a rare break from the constant crisis mode. Ji-ni pushes forward with her storybook — the project that’s been building since her moment at the publishing house — while Yeong-ju and Sa-bin’s bond keeps deepening in the background. Se-ri, meanwhile, runs out of room to keep dodging what’s actually in front of her.

Family Register Episode 28 — The Secret Ji-ni Finally Learns EP 28
The Secret Ji-ni Finally Learns
Se-ri’s dream — the overseas expansion she’d been chasing since Cha Production became hers — falls apart this episode, and it’s not a small setback. An ally finally steps up when she needs one most, which is its own small relief. Yeong-ju and Sa-bin’s bond turns into something with a real spark now, while Ji-ni finally learns the secret her mother’s been carrying.

Family Register Episode 29 — A Divide That Isn't Manufactured EP 29
A Divide That Isn’t Manufactured
The Seo Chon family splits down the middle over what to do about Se-ri and Ji-ni, and for once the divide isn’t manufactured — it’s genuine disagreement about two people they actually care about. Do-hee misreads what’s happening between Ji-ni and Ji-hu, badly enough that it’s clearly going to cause trouble. Sa-bin’s own heart stirs somewhere in the middle of it, a quiet thread finally getting some room to breathe.

Family Register Episode 30 — A Mother Acting on Instinct EP 30
A Mother Acting on Instinct
Se-ri makes a genuinely drastic choice for Ji-ni’s sake — not a calculated move like most of her decisions this season, but something closer to a mother acting on instinct. It costs her something, though the show doesn’t spell out exactly what yet. An unexpected guest crashes into Seo Chon at the worst possible moment and throws the whole household into chaos, undercutting whatever peace Se-ri just bought.

Family Register Episode 31 — A Sight Se-ri Never Expected EP 31
A Sight Se-ri Never Expected
Do-hee and Ji-hu soften toward each other again, another swing in a relationship that’s been see-sawing between doubt and reconciliation for episodes now. Se-ri, meanwhile, stumbles onto something she genuinely never expected — the kind of sight that changes what she thought she understood about someone. The show doesn’t rush to explain it; it just lets her reaction sit there.

Family Register Episode 32 — What's On Ji-ni's Tablet EP 32
What’s On Ji-ni’s Tablet
Se-ri plants herself firmly on Sa-bin’s side when it comes to his feelings for Yeong-ju, refusing to back down even as the rest of the family pushes back on it. Ji-ni’s tablet becomes the episode’s real problem — whatever’s on it is enough to spark both suspicion and a fresh crisis, and the show keeps the actual contents deliberately vague for now, saving the reveal for later.

Family Register Episode 33 — The First Real Strain EP 33
The First Real Strain
Yeong-ju makes a choice that visibly troubles Sa-bin, the first real strain on a bond that’s only been building warmer until now. Ji-hu digs in and resists change even as Seo Chon finds something worth actually celebrating for once. Ji-ni and Do-hee clash again — no reconciliation this time, just the old friction resurfacing at full strength, right when it seemed like it had cooled.

Family Register Episode 34 — Yeong-ju Walks Back the Warmth EP 34
Yeong-ju Walks Back the Warmth
Se-ri and Ji-ni run straight into the past’s shadow this episode — something neither of them has fully dealt with, resurfacing at the worst possible time. Whatever good feeling Seo Chon had going after last episode fades fast, and Yeong-ju makes the deliberate call to step back from Sa-bin, walking back the warmth that’s been building between them for weeks now.

Family Register Episode 35 — More Layers Than One Quick Scare EP 35
More Layers Than One Quick Scare
Ji-ni’s family history comes back around again, the past’s shadow from last episode turning out to have more layers than one quick scare. Suspicion of Do-hee reignites right along with it — old doubts nobody ever fully resolved, just set aside. O-reum, meanwhile, lands in another crisis, the business Seung-hyeon can’t seem to keep out of trouble for long.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Straight talk on whether this one’s worth watching, and for who.

🎻 Image vs. Reality 👩‍👧 Three Women, One Wound 🎨 Chasing a Dream Anyway 📺 A Slow-Burn Daily Drama

Five episodes in, Family Register hasn’t rushed to explain what actually broke this family — it keeps circling the wound instead of naming it outright, which is a harder, slower choice than most daily dramas make. Han Go-eun plays Na Se-ri’s public composure like something she’s had decades of practice building, so when it slips, it slips in inches instead of all at once. That kind of patience with a mother-daughter estrangement recalls Family by Choice, another KDW favorite that trusted quiet scenes over big confrontations.

Family Register (2026) — cinematic still

Park Se-young’s Na Ji-ni could easily have been written as a pure victim — blamed since birth, carrying a reputation she never earned — but the early episodes let her be stubborn and a little difficult too, not just sympathetic. It’s a similar instinct to what made Green Mothers’ Club work: give the woman under public judgment real edges, not just a sympathetic backstory.

Im Ji-eun’s No Yeong-ju is the show’s clearest wildcard so far — cheerful on the surface, and the early episodes are already hinting at exactly how much that cheerfulness is doing double duty as armor. With 115 episodes still ahead, she’s the character worth watching most closely.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
👩‍👧 Fans of mother-daughter estrangement stories that take their time getting to reconciliation 📅 Viewers who like the rhythm of a daily drama — short episodes, steady accumulation 🎭 Anyone drawn to ensemble casts where three separate wounds turn out to be connected

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
Three generations of women set up as parallel stories from episode one, not sequential ones — the connections feel earned
Han Go-eun and Park Se-young play the central rupture with real restraint instead of shouting matches
The daily-drama pace gives small moments room to breathe instead of rushing to the next reveal

What to know first
This is a 120-episode commitment — early episodes are still laying groundwork, not delivering payoffs yet
No MDL or aggregator score exists yet since the show just premiered on July 6
Melodrama pacing means slow accumulation of tension rather than frequent twists

Too Early to Score— Five episodes in, Family Register is doing the patient work of setting up three intertwined stories; we’ll revisit the score once there’s enough of the drama on record to actually judge it.
