Hye-joo is a writer trying her hand at a detective novel for the first time, and it is not going the way she hoped. One day a call arrives from the mother of her ex-husband Tae-jae, and she sets out on what turns into an unfamiliar journey. Along the way she keeps running into people, some from her past and some from her present. Those meetings have little to do with her original purpose and carry her far off course. On the day she is supposed to meet her boyfriend, for instance, she never sees him and ends up spending time with his son Yul-i and his friend Jong-i. The film had its world premiere in the Vision-Korea section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival on October 9, 2026.

✍️ KDramaWorlds Editor’s Take

Our honest opinion — and the kind of viewer who’ll love it most.

🎬 Director Kim Mi-young Known for: Kim Mi-young won the DGK Megabox Award at the 2023 Busan International Film Festival for A Lonely Island in the Distant Sea. Some Detective returns her to Busan, this time in the Vision-Korea section.
🎞️ Busan Premiere🖋️ Writer’s Block🕵️ Detective, Loosely⚫ Black & White

The title does the first bit of work. A film called Some Detective that follows a novelist stuck on her first detective book is already telling you the mystery is a pretext. The most useful reference point on this site is Broker, another film about a loose group of people whose journey keeps pulling them somewhere other than where they set out to go, though this one looks far smaller and quieter.

Some Detective (2026) — cinematic still

Director Kim Mi-young is not a stranger to Busan: her earlier film A Lonely Island in the Distant Sea won the DGK Megabox Award there in 2023, and this one arrived with post-production support from the festival’s Asian Cinema Fund. That track record is the reason it is on our radar. We have not seen the film, so this page sticks to what is confirmed about its setup and will gain a proper story and ending breakdown once reliable sources exist. Viewers who liked the moral drift of Possible Love are the likeliest audience.

For now this is an anticipation pick, not a review. The cast is small and mostly new to us, the stills are in black and white, and the premise promises encounters rather than plot twists. Whether it earns its wandering is something only wider screenings will show.

👍👍👍 BEST FOR 👍👍👍
🎞️ Festival-goers who follow the Busan Vision-Korea lineup🖋️ Anyone drawn to stories about writers and creative block🕵️ Viewers who like a detective frame used for something more personal

⚖️ Final Verdict
What works
•A premise that turns a detective novel into a road through the heroine’s past
•A director with a prior award at the same festival
•A concise 85-minute runtime

What to know first
•It premiered at Busan on October 9, 2026; no commercial release date or streaming platform is announced
•Plot and ending details are not yet confirmed by multiple sources, so none are given here
•The film is listed as a Drama, not a mystery

Anticipation Pick— A small festival drama worth keeping an eye on; the full verdict waits until the film is widely seen.
