Mission: Mompossible

Our honest opinion — and the kind of viewer who’ll love it most.

KBS1 has been on something of a hot streak with daily melodrama lately — Family Register proved there’s still a hungry audience for slow-cooked family secrets stretched across a full year, and Mission: Mompossible looks built from the same playbook, just with a fashion-house backdrop and a workplace romance bolted onto the inheritance-mystery chassis. The casting alone signals a show that knows its lane: Kim Hee-jung and Kang Kyung-hun as dueling mothers, Lee Han-wi and Kim Yeong-ok rounding out the older generation, and newcomers Jung Min-ah and Dong Ha carrying the actual plot forward.

The real intrigue here is structural. Da-mi’s assistant job puts her inside the household she’s been kept apart from her whole life without either side realizing it yet — a setup that recalls how The Good Bad Mother used a mother’s sacrifice as the emotional floor under a much colder plot about power and secrets. If Mission: Mompossible commits to that same trick — letting the melodrama and the mystery pull in opposite directions instead of collapsing into one — it has real potential to outlast its 8:30 p.m. competition.

Twenty-three years is a long time to sit on a secret, and KBS1 clearly intends to make viewers wait most of the run to see it unravel. That’s either a strength or a stalling tactic, depending on how disciplined the writing stays past episode thirty.
